In the design of a non-sway column, is it necessary to perform a p-delta analysis if you are using the moment magnification method if the column is slender (as per ACI)? Or is the moment magnification a method used in lieu of having to do p-delta?

If the latter is true, if we have a stocky column where it is below the limit for a slender column, is it necessary to perform p-delta at all?

Thanks

Think of it in terms of two similar effects.

P-Big Delta = Effect of Story drift.
P-Little Delta = Effect of member curvature between floors.

For a non-sway frame, P-Big Delta should be zero or close to zero. You might check that to be sure. If not, then maybe it shouldn't be classified as non-sway.

For P-Little Delta, the moment magnification method should be sufficient to amplify moment for member curvature.
