Are there any NX users that use NX for pure 2D drafting? (Not detailing)

Our department is really struggling to use NX in this area. Our company has recently moved from Ideas to NX and this area of NX really need to be addressed!!!!!

Thanks.

I guess I don't understand the question. What type of drafting do you do other than detailing? Assemblies? Actual design layouts? [shocked]
If your question is about design layouts, then your using a shotgun to kill a fly.
I hope that UGS doesn't try to fix a problem like that.

N1J,

I'm afraid that saying NX Drafting needs to be addressed without giving a specific example of what issue(s) you're having is pretty much a futile effort in terms of getting help.

I don't specifically use NX for drafting ONLY, but I have created complete drawings in 2D using only the Drafting application and didn't seem to have too much of a problem.

Care to fill in the gaps for us? Maybe describing what you want to do in NX will result in you finding out NX can do exactly what you're wanting. But I'd first encourage you to not think of NX with an I-deas mindset....2 completely different beasts.

Now before we go any further, lets make sure that we're talking about the same thing here.

SDRC used to sell a product dedicated to 2D design & drafting which could be used standalone from the regular Ideas 3D modeling and drafting products. When we decided to transition Ideas functionality to Unigraphics, thus creating the new NX product line, it was decided that we would NOT be implementing a NEW Unigraphics-based equivalent 2D Design & Drafting product. However, we did recognize that there was still a need for a product like this in certain industry segments and locals and so we basically repackaged the existing Ideas 2D product, making some appearance and UI changes as well as updating the interface so as to allow it to more easily share data with full blown NX, and renamed it NX 2D. Note that this product is in the current UGS price book and is available for purchase.

That being said, if you are a customer transitioning from Ideas to NX and you had seats of this 2D design & drafting product, those seats should have been upgraded to NX 2D and NOT full blown NX, unless you opted for that as part of the overall upgrade. So if you're in the situation where perhaps you traded in an "orange" and got an "apple" instead, perhaps you may wish to revist your upgrade strategy.

I've used NX drafting for everything from detailing to technical illustration and never found it lacking anything. It is capable of creating any 2D representation of the model that you need.

Maybe you could give some examples of what you are trying to accomplish.

Some older designer in my company used to design the die with UG2D.That is a lot of waste ,I think.
