This thread is similar to thread561-364185, but it doesn't work with "shift + drag"

I have a datum symbol with leader to an edge. I have to redraw an older drawing.

How can I move the "A" WITH LEADER upward and it create automatically an extension line in NX8.0?

See attached image.

What version of NX are you running, are you attaching this datum to a surface revolution or on an surface fillet. Try tagging a different surface that would be planar with out having an edge blend or surface of revolution. This was an issue in NX 8.0 for us if I remember correctly.

Hi Sdeters, I have 8.0 and the Datum Symbol is on a straight surface. Tried ever and ever again, does not work.
Have you an idea?
Thx

Sorry I have no other thoughts, you could always try to attach it to a Dimension extension line. These datum symbols are not fun, especially when they do not attach how you want them to. Our Work around was sketch a line over the geometry, constrain the sketch to the geometry, then attach this symbol to this sketch line. Big time work around.

I feel your pain.
Don't waste too much time trying to reattach it, as you are probably better off deleting it and placing a new one.

Thanks, I have to find a way via 3D Modeling, emailed me a friend. I think it is said,
that such an expensive program like NX cannot do so like CATIA V5.

I have to redesign parts from CATIA Drawings and attached (jpg) is the scene, how it looks like in CATIA V5.

But thanks again.

Is this a old file with an old datum symbol ? ( UG V17 or similar ?) or maybe an imported symbol from Catia/other?
Very old datum symbols might not have the capability to do the sideways movement.
Many (most?) of the drafting objects have been re-written in terms of the underlying code, even if the appearance on the drawing is exactly the same as always.
The Shift+drag sideways was introduced "somewhere in time". Has not always been there.
NX has always had the philosophy to allow old type data in new releases and also to upgrade to later "underlying code".
- There is a Version up ( -drafting objects) , in NX8.5 it's under Preferences -Drafting- General, i would guess it's the same in NX8.0 ( NX12 : Menu- Tools-Version up)

And, btw, you should not listen to users of different systems too much.
If one system comes up with something revolutionary, the competing systems will "mimic" within a few years. This also applies to minor details, like dragging datum symbols sideways. ("System XYZ can do "this", we must implement that too.")

NX8.0, Is there a good reason for using this version ?

Regards,
Tomas

The old drawing with black background is CATIA V5. We could not migrate this to NX. My NX version is 8.0, unfortunately. My Boss was now OK to make a simple sketch line.

Thanks to all for your help!!
