Hello Dears,
I am working in an oil & gas industry, and has assignment to inspect existing GRE pipeline, especially in the joint (flange and for pipe to pipe). Is there any method that commonly used for the inspection (instead of visual inspection only)? my last experience was inspection in metallic pipeline, and for metallic many method that available.
But for GRE i hasn't found some method. in ISO 14692 part 4 was mentioned, but not too clear for me. I would like to know is there any method that used to inspect the GRE pipeline, especially in the joints? appreciate for the discussion and inputs.
thanks.

Regards,

From my experience of GRE, this is one its key issues in that there are no real NDE NDT tests other than hydro.

Visual is a s good as it gets - any laminations, bulges, splits, leaks or abrasions need to be looked at and possibly rectified.

The outer epoxy layer often gets opaque and can start to craze which is more of an issue identifying any splits or laminations under it.

ISO 14692 part 4 looks pretty good to me especially appendices A and E. Have you actually got a copy / read it? don't think you're going to find anything better.

It does also list other NDE / NDT techniques such as radiograhy and UT, noting its requirements and limitations.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

In this case you should be familiar with API 570 ( Piping Inspection Code for metallic piping). For inspection issues associated with FRP piping, You are required to refer API 574.

Other reference MTI 129 Field Inspection of FRP Equipment and Piping. Which you may look at link
ISO 14692 part 4; Annex E Guidance on NDE methods and section 5.7 are useful for inspection of RTR piping.

Read MTI 129 first, it is a good doc written by people that do this.

The GRE pipes have a life as per the manufacturer. As long as there is no leak, your life is easy. Still if you need to maintain paperwork, excavate all the joints and carry out a hydro-test at a pressure 1.3 times of the operating.

Btw, do you have latest version of this ISO 14692? because i only read the 2002 and 2007 version. appreciated also if you have ASTM D2992 latest edition.
