Dears,

I am designing pipe supports for 4" pipes on a base frame. Loading data are provided from caesar II. I used W4x13 beams as a vertical beam for pipe support. A horizontal W4x13 is weleded above this column in which pipes will be U bolted. But when i analysed in staad most of the beams are failing in cantilever deflection. But in physically i hope there will not be this deflection as pipes are continuously connected in all supports where supports will be more rigid. So how i tell staad to consider this. Now i am using "CAN 1" parameter to consider these supports as a cantilever, is this right?. else i need to provide a cross bracing to make the support's deflection in permissible limit. Please advise how to do the analysis for exact result.

Either the supports are supporting the pipe or the pipe is supporting the supports. If they're defecting enough that you need the pipe stiffness to counterbalance it, you need to change your design.

Deae Jed,

Support is supporting pipe. even though, i hope there will be a small amount of counter force against support deflection. So where i need to apply the pipe stiffness, in Caesar or staad
