Plan Reviewer Authority Limitation (or lack ot it) 2

Involved in a project where the local plan reviewer (only one for the Jurisdiction) is requiring testing on all concrete over 2500 psi, approved mix design or not..

He is also in the field inspecting with the local inspector (Only one of those too!).

This requirement is causing all sorts of headaches and delays in projects for local contractors.

We normally do not require testing unless the required mix is over 2500psi.

Anyone having similar problems with the plan reviewers?

yeah. I have had problems with this in the Inland NW and rural Oregon. You could try asking him to walk you through IBC 1705.3 and explain how he arrived at the requirements he is enforcing. I have done this to some success.

I agree with others referencing section 1705.3. If its causing you problems and the inspector won't budge, I'd personally go over his head and talk to the Chief Building Official.

Used to be that if you specified 2000 or 2500 psi no special inspection was needed - standard practice. But now, for durability, strengths of 3000 or higher are usually specified.
