I have a tapped hole on the end of a precision shaft. The hole is on the center line. What is the best way to apply a postion tolerance so that the threaded hole stays on the centerline? THe shop that makes the part seems to have a hard time with keeping the tap straight and I want to make sure that the drawing is providing enough information to them. thanks.

Sorry didn't mean to excessively labor the point.

i wanted to know the hole tolerance for the tap size 2.6mm,either it may be a cut tap hole or roll tap hole.can anybody help me on this issue?

Best regards,
kiran

kirancole, the specific tolerance used will depend on the application. For instance if you're looking to match patterns of holes (or equivalent) then the size, tolerance & positional tolerance of the holes in the mating pattern will drive the tolerance.

If you give application information you may get the answer, or some ideas of calculation to find the answer.

Or are you just asking the tolerance on the diameter of the 'tap hole' for presumably an M3 thread?

kirancole,

Your question sounds like the start of a new thread.

Also, I am not sure I understand your question. Are you trying to figure out the positional tolerance for the tapped hole? Perhaps the diameter tolerance for the tap drill?

Im relatively new to GD&T, but if the threaded hole requires tighter perpendicularity could you not use a projected tolerance zone to get the perpendicularity that you need?

Keveo:

Please do not put something on a drawing that you are not sure of. I would suggest training in GD & T or you could really mess things up.

Of course, it was just a question, not an answer. Just trying to learn. I apologize...and i have had a class just haven't had enough experience in applying it! Point taken though.
