Cumbre Vieja, a volcano on La Palma in the Canaries, just erupted a couple of hours ago. National Geographic did an episode on it as part of a 'Disaster Earth' series a few years ago. Essentially, there's evidence of a massive landslide on the island a few hundred millennia ago, the likes of which would have formed a tsunami large enough to hit the east coast of the US. A recent earthquake seems to have restarted the process and formed a large fissure along the island.

Here's to hoping it doesn't move any more....

After a month of exploding volcano, they probably aren't afraid of much of anything anymore.

The rescue team is on the ferry. They are due to arrive La Palma about now.

I wasn't suggesting that the dog would be afraid of the banging or the drone itself, but some dogs are actually scared of heights.
Most dogs are not use to hanging under a drone in mid air.
Even flying a drone with a dead object hanging under it isn't easy and with a dog trying to get out of the net climbing and kicking must be even worse.

How do they plan on getting the dogs to go in the net? I can't imagine that's going to be an easy task. Can't imagine it'll be any easier after the bark barks see the first bark bark fly away trapped in a net.
Youtube's translation is horrible.

Demented; The'll place food in the center like they have been feeding them for a week. They actually run out and start trying to drink/eat before the drink/food is even on the ground.


I think a folding net is a great idea! Really a nice method. Especially with the perfect sized net holes so a dog's feet will fall thru them and without thumbs, they're trapped. Hope it all goes well.


Thanks 44 for that link. I saw something buried in a broader newscast, that translated, didn't make much sense on its own.

I reckon it will work a treat.

I suspect though it will work too well and they will get more than the drone can lift.

Don't know what the max number of dogs at each location are.
Hope they have not been feeding them too much.

4,8 at 35km depth greatest magnitude quake ever recorded on La Palma.
New vent blew out too
Booked the ferry for Friday-Sunday trip.

If they're straight up running to the food before the drones even get it down, I doubt they've been eating much.

Yesterday they were saying that 4.8 was higher up around 20km.

44 I think you should play the intro to Europe "Final countdown" it would work great for some volcano sightseeing. ;-)

Demented I think the water is the issue, dogs can only regulate there body temp by panting, and perspire on there paws and nose they can get dehydrated quite kvick if it's to hot.
