Hello all,

I'm new here and just wanted to see if anyone with more experience could offer some insight.

I have a "near side" countersink callout that is attributed to a side view on an orthographic drawing. I know that the nutplate will, in practice, have the upset head on the side that the nutplate is installed on, however I find it confusing that the "near side" callout appears to require the countersink on this side.

Is it standard to assume that "near side/far side" callouts are always based on the original view? In this case, it would make sense, as the normal view does show the correct surface where I would expect the countersink. Or is this drawing incorrectly labeled?

I've included a picture to recreate the drawing generically.

Thanks for the clarification!

No, the callouts apply to the view in which they are defined. You should not dimension to a hidden feature, so the left hand view would be more appropriate for the hole callout (including FAR SIDE for the c'sink) unless you included a break-away section of the hole in the right hand view. Near side may be used but is not necessary (and serves to complicate a drawing) unless some confusion may result otherwise. Far side is used much more frequently.
