Our firm has been asked by a local fabricator (Fabricator #1) to fill out charts for the capacity of fixed columns - 3", 3 1/2" diameter. This will be used so they can obtain an ICC-ES report. See ESR-1767 obtained by another local fabricator (Fabricator #2). This is essentially the same report that Fabricator #1 wants.
My question is this. In the referenced ICC -ES report, the capacities listed are for the pipe column only. They do not take into consideration the base plate or cap plate. Section 4.1 states that these capacities my be calculated. How can they get away with this? All adjustable posts you buy in Home Depot or Lowes have 3/16" baseplates and cap plates? Any thoughts?
