Reusing Pump Baseplates

An existing OH centrifugal pump (approx 150 HP) is being relocated to a new location in the plant. Has anyone successfully reused an existing baseplate (chipping out the existing grout and repouring in a new spot)?

My gut tells me it will not save any money vs. purchasing a new baseplate from the pump manufacture. I would compare this situation with reusing pipe supports that have been grouted in place (which I've never seen done), except pumps are precise equipment that must be aligned within thousands of an inch.

Who can decide if the old base plate is in a good shape for reuse?

At least, the coating under the base plate might be damaged during the removal and need to be repaired. For the new operation, it may be worth to have the vendor to clean and check the pump performance, and repair the base late as needed.

Easily cured, it's called cost analysis.

It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.)
