Would any engineer here know what would be an equal Simpson Wood Strong Wall substituted to the Steel SSW15x7.4 Steel Strong Wall? The same for the Simpson SSW18x9?

Any help would be appreciated.

If you're looking for site built, you're unlikely to find one. If you want alternative products, MiTek has HardyFrames.

Sorry. Misread your question.

The new high strength wood shear walls (WSWH) from Simpson have better design values than the steel ones. You can either go to the design tables from Simpson, the ESR report or use their online calculator to find the size you need.

They have design values listed in tables for both products, have you seen them?
On another note phamENG, Simpson came out with a site built portal frame that uses 2x or LVL members with connections kits that included anchors and straps. They have design values as well as ESR reports for equivalent IRC methods.

kissymoose - I've seen those. Pretty slick. Though I don't think they can be used for anything but direct connection to concrete/masonry foundations, and they are only meant to replace the braced walls from the IRC like you mentioned. No quantified lateral resistance for engineered use.
