Snap view to the nearest WCS plane orientation 1

In NX, F8 will snap to the nearest absolute plane. The command "Set View to WCS" snaps to the WCS Z vector with X & Y properly aligned. Is there a command to snap to the nearest WCS plane? I know it can be done with the environmental variable UGII_FKEY_DYNAMICS=1, which makes F4 function like it did in I-deas. I would like to map my F9 to this same functionality, without remapping all of my function keys. Is this even possible?

I don't know if your request can be fulfilled, but as a semi-workaround, if you have a planar face or a datum plane selected when you press the F8, NX will "snap to that".
( Highly annoying when one manipulates a "section"... :)

The star is from me
i didn't know this function
and you can't even imagine since how many time
i was looking for such kind of command.

NX 7.5 64bit
NX 9.0.3.4 MP4 64bit
NX 10.0.3.5 MP3 64bit

Yes, that was new to me too.
I knew about the F1, F2, F3 but not the F4.
But, it seems to snap to a number of other planes as well which are not planes of the WCS not ABS.?

I guess John might be able to shed some light on this one.

Tomas

Correct Tomas. With the Fkey dynamics variable set, the F4 acts like it does in I-deas, using the WCS. If you are nearer to an isometric view than a view plane, it will snap to the iso view. I would like this F4 function available to map to a different shortcut. I currently use F9 for "Set View to WCS", but I only get the XY plane with that.

This is interesting, i assume that today most ex I-deas users have stopped using the F1,F2,F3 .( the pan zoom Rotate buttons) I assume that they use MB2 and Spaceballs instead. - Well, of-course there are a number of die hard enthusiasts keeping the F1, F2 etc , but most...:)
But very many ( all Freeform users ?) probably would love to have the F4 functionality.

Tomas

my workaround is this
I put "Set View to WCS" on my radial menu, then "ctrl-R" to flip it around

I use it a lot when checking die tips and such. Hot keys from WCS would be a nice function.

I created an Incident Report (IR) Number 7907388, which eventually was merged with an existing enhancement request, ER Number 6952897.
---------------------------
Found Existing ER# 6952897, attaching this IR to the existing ER.
Description;
---------------
[ul]
[li]Make F8 function like F4 (when FKEY Dynamics is enabled)[/li]
[li]Short Description: Unable to map the F8 key to complete the same function as the F4 key when FKEY Dynamics is enabled.[/li]
[li]What activity in your process is UG not able to currently handle?[/li]
[li]By default F8 snaps to closest canned view.[/li]
[li]When UGII_FKEY_DYNAMICS is set, F4 snaps to the closest canned view with respect to the current WCS orientation. There is no command in NX that the F8 key can be mapped to that performs that same functionality.[/li]
[li]Do you currently have a workaround? Enable the variable and use F4.[/li]
[li]Do you have a proposal for the solution you envision UG providing for this capability? Incorporate the FKEY Dynamics functionality into NX such that the F8 key can be remapped to perform the same result as the F4 key when FKEY Dynamics has been enabled.[/li]
[li]What is the level of productivity gained from such an enhancement? Moderate[/li]
[/ul]

Hopefully, this functionality will be incorporated sooner than later!
