Hello, I'm having trouble finding a starting point to design steam systems for HVAC applications. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? Thanks in advance.

Spirax Sarco design of fluid systems. Pretty sure it’s available free online, hopefully legally.

Amazon.com has that Spirax Sarco book listed for $22. It is an excellent resource, and I remember a time when Spirax salesmen would just hand them out in plants.

Thanks, I am going through their manual now!

I would suggest
HVAC Systems Design Handbook, Fifth Edition by Roger W. Haines and Michael E. Meyers (2009)
HVAC Design Sourcebook 1st Edition by W. Larsen Angel (2011)
which may be very useful to you. I was advised by some companies with Engre

The "Piping Handbook" by Nayyar used to have an entire chapter on steam piping .... but the best guidance is in the Spirax Sarco text.

The most difficult and most important part of steam system design is determining the number and placement of steam traps, ....IMHO

Pay attention to the piping design, layout and support of the condensate system ....

Ensure that the system is properly cleaned, flushed and hydro tested, weld inspection must be documented (if required).

All steam systems undergo hammering on start-up..... get experienced people to perform start-up trap testing and verification...

A recent steam system event in New Haven, VA resulted in multiple deaths

My opinion only ....

Since the steam line has to be connected to a boiler, the applicable code for design, installation and testing is ASME B 31.1, unless the pressure is less than 15 psig. These lines are termed as Non-Boiler External Piping.
