Strange expressions in my model

Hi everyone!

I checked the Tools > Expression... menu, and I found out that there were several strange expressions that I'm pretty sure I never created.

Could anyone tell me where they come from? and if it is possible to delete them?

Check the image to view what I'm talking about. I only created the first three of these (the named ones) and the others I'm sure that they are no part of any of my sketches

Is this a file which was originally created in some other version of NX and then open in NX 6.0 and the sketch added? If so, were there any points in the file?

Hi John

I'm using NX6, and my file was created in the same version.

When I go to Tools > Expression..., and then right click over any of these 'strange expressions', then List of references, it shows the next report:

Again, what sort of objects are in the part file?

BTW, have you tried deleting any of these expressions? Were you able to do so? If you were able to delete any of these expressions, try running Part Clean-up and using the 'Delete Unused Expressions' option.

If this happens again, think about what it was that you created or edited just before these 'phantom' expressions suddenly appeared and let us know what you learned.

I've seen similar expressions show up after I had recorded a journal. It has been a while ago, though, so I don't remember what command caused it. In my case, the expressions were not used and the system allowed me to delete them.

Thanks for your interest in helping me.

John, all the parts in my model are created by extruded and revolved skeches, and also some holes and text curves.

I tried to delete these expressions by right click, but 'delete' is disabled, then I tried with the 'part clean-up' option but nothing happened, these expressions are still apearing.

Another thing that I was missing is that I put assenblies in the same file in the past, this by adding components and then using the WAVE geometry linker, but now I've deleted all of them. Do you think these espressions came from these operations?

It's unlikely that WAVE contributed to this problem as it only copies an un-featured body, albeit with a link back to its parent, but not to any of the expressions.

Your best bet may be to send your file to GTAC and have them at least identify what 'features' are these expressions linked to, which is preventing from being deleted.

You could also try this, make a copy of your file and start deleting features, one at a time, starting with the last feature in the tree, check after each deletion if the expressions are still there and if so, can you now delete any of them. Keep doing this until something happens.

Hi John

Thanks for your help.

I deleted the features one by one, and I noticed that the expressions were still there, even when I deleted the Datum CSYS. So, I went to drafting and deleted every view, dimension and note and then those expressions finally went away, but still, I can't identify where are those expressions linked to.

The solution I found was: in Tools>Expression... I renamed one by one these expressions (example: p223__y to p223), and seemed to work.

I'm gonna check if my file continues working well, and if I have any problem I'll ask for your help again.

May I make a recommendation; please consider moving to using the Master Model approach where the piece part and the drawing are in different part files. This is how the system is now designed to work at its best and you should seriously consider adopting this approach. Now it may not have much to do with your present issues, but it can't hurt either.
