Seems to be a recurring theme; the Navy had a bunch of officers "retired" for the collision of a destroyer(?) with a cargo ship in roughly the same area. It was again, poor training and inattention to situational awareness

I learned a new word. "allision". If I ever allide with a tree or fire hydrant I will put that on my insurance claim.

allide?

No shortcuts Dik. You gotta read the WKTaylor's link to get the good stuff

OK... never heard the term until now...

Like I asked a young fellow just after he crashed his father's truck;
"How fast was the fire hydrant going when it hit you?"
And the next time;
"How fast was the semi backing up when it hit you?"
A serial allider? Alliser?

Hmmm. sounds like the man who wrote his insurance company explaining the accident.

I was turning into my driveway and hit my neighbors tree that wasn't suppose to be standing there.

And I once saw a support column in a bar abruptly jump three feet sideways to hit an innocent drunk.

I actually saw that two days ago in the restaurant at work.
I dividing wall suddenly moved into a sober telephone surfer.

I have had a neighbors tree hit (and total) my car. There was a storm, the top half of the tree snapped off, and the trunk thereof landed on my car.

Somewhat off topic. The recent crash of the British F35 in international waters has me puzzled. After the plane is abandoned in International waters, is it up to whoever finds it to claim ownership?

The right of salvage. But when I was looking to learn more about it, I discovered that most of what they call the 'law of salvage' applies to ships and their cargo. I didn't find much about other items found on the bottom of the sea.

Thanks, John.

The UK still owns it and has rights to recover it if someone lifts it. They will go and blow it up though.

There is loads of stuff about this sort of thing if you look at the stuff about that russian sub k-129 the CIA lifted

"an allision is when a vessel strikes a non-moving object." ... by "vessel" you could include what we normally call "cars" ... if you've wasted YT time on "sov cit" and "admiralty courts" you'll get it.

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

The nuclear submarine USS Connecticut has managed to make it to San Diego, after what appears to have been a heretofore unreported transit across the Pacific, from Guam:

Damaged Submarine USS Connecticut Appears In San Diego After Secret Journey From Guam

The damaged USS Connecticut's covert journey across the Pacific must have been an arduous and complex affair.

Note that I described it as an 'unreported' transit. It was the article that used the term 'covert'. I agree, if they really did run the whole way surfaced, it could hardly be called 'covert'.
