Hi

what is thermal buffering in forging material HT process.,

is there any standard for using thermal buffering for low carbon high strength alloy materials .

thanks ..

whats the key benefit for doing this, compare to the current QTC testing

Since material receives a better quench (higher cooling rate, better properties) near the surfaces of a part, a thermal buffer allows testing of material that more closely represents through-thickness properties of a forging. API 6A, for example, requires mechanical properties 1/4T (1/4 x thickness) from the exterior surface. The material between the specimen and the exterior of the part would be the "buffer".
