I have an issue where the thread callout gives me too much space between the "1/4-20" and UNC for example. I have been editing the -20 and the UNC, It appears that there is a space after the -20 and one before the UNC. This is driving me nuts. How can I fix this?

The thread callouts are controlled by the inherit parameter template files. In your nx6\UGII folder you should see "inh_files" directory. Edit these files to get the callouts formatted to your liking. You may want to create a new directory for your modified templates and modify the directory location in you ugii.env file.

Thanks 4qts.
But that seems to work for the old thread call out. The new thread are getting there info some where else. I have since read other posts that give the unhelpful responce of "that will be fixed in later versions"

Again thankyou for your Responce

I have just been working with the thread data. The solution we have implemented to fix the extra space is all in the Threaded_Hole_Standard.xml file. When you open the file you will see Callout="1/4-20 UNC". We have modified all of them to read Callout="1/4-20UNC". It appears the space is automatically added by the inherit parameters.

That "later version" was NX 7.5, which has been available for some time now.

I realize that 7.5 and now 8 have been released. Where I am working and where I have worked in the past have had to wait for GM, GE, Pratt & Whittney and who ever else to change over. I also am aware that you can't go back to fix all of the issues that arise, we wouldn't be able to progress forward, and in most cases I think NX has done a great job with their new stuff.

John:

We are running NX 7.5.0.32 and it still does the space after the thread callout and UNC. Is there a newer version of 7.5 that this has been fixed?

-Mike

There should be a single space between the thread callout (1/4-20) and thread type (UNC), so you end up with 1/4-20 UNC.

For reference see, ASME Y14.6-2001, page 8, shows the thread callout WITH the space.

The standard is not a question here. The question was how to get NX to display to the standard (one space not two). The way I have solved the problem is to remove the space in the "Threaded_Hole_Standard.xml file. See my post on 6-1-12.

Ben:

I meant that in NX 7.5 it still does TWO spaces after so it looks like "1/4-20 UNC-2B". I had to manually correct the XML file as 4gts stated (which worked well).I was just confused because it has been this way since NX 6, NX 4 is the last version that we had that did not have two spaces.

If the file formatting is not consistant with the standards, then open a IR with GTAC and have them investigate why. It may be a low priority item, but simple enough that the files do get updated for NX8.5.

This problem was reported to GTAC long ago and they say will be fixed in a later version...
