Hi all,

Is there a minimum protrusion length for bolts after the washer and nut have been fitted and tightened?

I work for an abrasive company who are looking to make a front loading mandrel for nonwoven abrasive discs and need to know how much thread should be showing after the whole thing has been put together.
I have heard that a minimum of two threads showing is the general rule of thumb but, obviously for safety issues, need this confirming.

Does anyone have an ISO / ANSI (or whatever standard) reference for someting like this?

Thanks

Eggbert,

You might want to post this in the Engineering Codes, Standards and Certifications forum as well. SAE and ASTM come to mind as additional possibilities. Have you searched the sites directly for information?

Thanks guys, problem solved...looks like 1 to 2 threads will be OK for this product.
