At least the last time I tried it, a shaft with a symbolic thread provided no automatic help when it came to rendering an image. If you want a precise, photo-realistic thread you will need to apply an actual Thread Feature using the physical option. If you simply want a 'representation' of a thread, but not an actual photo-realistic looking thread then you'll have to apply a texture to simulate a threaded shaft.

Please describe me the full process, how to apply the texture of thread on the shaft in a rendering environment.
