Hello,
Is there a way to retrofit a HDPE line with tracer wire or a practice and/or technology that can be applied if such a line was installed without tracer wire?

Thank you for your responses.

As much as possible, do it right the first time...

Tracer wire so that you can find it with a CAT scanning tool?

None I know of, but you might be able to insert one inside. Or just use some dowsing / divining rods.

Don't believe that it is possible to retrofit a tracer wire.

You can't be serious. The same phenomenon has been shown to lie behind movements of objects on a Ouija board.

If divining rods worked, it would put the entire tracing wire industry out of business.

If you know where the pipe is, you might try plowing in a tracing wire above it, similar to how fibreoptic cable is sometimes installed.

A black swan to a turkey is a white swan to the butcher.

Oh I'm very serious.

Tends to find some false positives but it's great at finding plastic pipes up to about 1.5m deep

If the ground is churned up a lot can get a bit confused but better than not having a clue.

Doesn't work for everyone, but works for me.

Tracing wires, cables and metal pipes with trackers etc works for everyone, but plastic doesn't show up.

Thank you everyone for the inputs. Will research more on all the recommendations

If you can take the line out of service, you can successfully fish a tracer wire on the inside of a line. This isn't practical for more than a short run.
