Question for folks.

Is there any time that a 1.5" nozzle, not an inspection opening, is exempt from the minimum thickness of UG-16, 0.0625" ?

Thanks

No,

Assuming 0.625" is min required for tb1 and/or tb2

tb = min (.127", max(.0625",.0625")
tb = .0625"

tug-45 = max(ta,.0625")

So even in ta is less than .0625", max is 1/16".

Thanks.

That's what I thought. New to all this so had to double check.

Thanks again

Don't forget to apply any corrosion allowance.

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

There is a misconception among some Certificate Holders that small nozzles and fittings are exempt from UG-45 (or UG-44) calculations. Small openings that comply with the requirements of UG-36(c)(3)(a) are only exempt from reinforcement calculations and UW-15 weld strength calculations.

All nozzles are required to have UG-45 nozzle neck calculations and B16.9 and B16.11 fittings are required to be calculated as straight seamless pipe per UG-44.
