It looks like China is going to implement an export ban of Urea next month, e key ingredients for both fertilizer and DEF. We are already seeing the impact of high fertilizer prices on our food supply but I believe a DEF shortage will have much more dire consequences.

You can grow a crop with less fertilizer but you can't drive a truck with less DEF. A lot of people are about to learn the hard way that the engine derates and lockouts that are only resettable by the dealers are not unique to the John Deere brand.

There should be an emergency push from the government for engine manufacturers to have programming ready to temporarily bypass DEF quality sensors in the event of shortage.

Tug... I suspect that it is far more serious, and I'm not sure where the pendulum will swing.

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Do you feel any better?

It's ok I have started getting the mother in law to piss in a bucket. The morning strength is particularly impressive.

If today is anything to go by its a couple of gallons a day.

And she has just put away a kg of wild pig ribs which I wouldn't touch. So tomorrow morning will be even better quality I reckon.

@Enginesrus,

I think you got a little carried away in the nostalgia when you said "no pandemic" - try to remember "Hong Kong flu"? Estimated to have killed about as many as Covid.

I'd not worry about the DEF. From what I read there are coming shortages of fuel of every kind. So you won't need the DEF :)

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Lube oil shortages are certainly here. I can't get polyurea grease or gear oil.

Countries allowing essential items to be manufactured offshore, are just looking for problems. Hope there is time to remedy.

The Australian gummint has just bribed our local fertiliser manufacturer to restart their DEF factory. Locally the price has trebled since the shortage started, I had seen it a low as 70 c/litre, it is now over $2. 50c of the increase is due to the increase in price of natural gas.

Cheers
