Vertical vessel legs support

Dear,

Is there any standards for the design of the legs support in the CS vertical (small:L=2m&D=0.7m)pressure vessel containing 700 l of compressed air @ 40 bar, 20 C°.
In fact I can't find in the ASME BPVC Section VIII DIV 1 any indication. Else should I do the sizing using my manual calculation?

7mayda, this type of design is usually done per a pressure vessel handbook, such as Moss or Bednar. Perhaps with a WRC 107 type calc for the attachment to the shell.

Design of legs is covered in the various pressure vessel handbooks, and methods used vary.

Suggest that you use a ring support ...... Just specify your vessel and simply buy a commercial grade vessel.

Required thickness and dimensions must be determined by calculations using the design loads and allowable stresses at design temperature.

If you decide to weld the legs on a NB/ASME pressure vessel, I believe that you are alterating the original design, therefore, check alteration section of the National Board Inspection Code for guideline on their requirements.
