wave linking in nx7

hi everyone,

cant understand what's happening with my wave linked faces. Look at the attached picture. have somebody experienced smth like that? all linked faces are associated (timestamp is off), but then if you change position of any component, all the linked faces moving around without any reason.
if it will be nessecary, i can upload here all my assembly.

nx 7.0.1.7 64bit, win7 64bit

hmm... seems assembly constraints somehow affects wave-linked components (if some other part is constrained to the part, which contains wave links). Can comebody check it in nx7 32bit?

Still fighting with wave links. So i made simple assembly, and uploading it here. try double click on the white part and change position of the sketch (simple drag it up or down a little). the results are very strange and difficult to understand. and after all it destroys all the model, throwing around all wave-linked faces everythere.
Is there any solution, because we have a lot of models with wave links, so now I am afraid to open them ;/

I tested with NX 7.5 (I don't have NX 7 on this computer) and have been unable to reproduce what you describe.

try double click on the white part and change position of the sketch (simple drag it up or down a little).

Double clicking on the white part makes it the work part, but I'm not sure I follow on the "simple drag it up or down a little". Are you using the move command to move the sketch itselft or are you activating the sketch and dragging the entities (it is underconstrained, the sketch entities will move)?

I have tried:
'move object' on the sketch - nothing moves because of the wave links.
activating the sketch and dragging: sketch entities move and update, linked faces stay fixed.
moving the white component in the assembly - no error messages, but component snaps back into place when I press OK.

Either I missed something, there is more to what you are doing, or it just affects NX 7.

Yes, just drag the sketch of the white part (it is underconstrained). I am attaching picture with the results of nx7.

I tested this using both NX 7.0.1.7 and NX 7.5.4.4 and it appears that with NX 7.5 the WAVE linked objects remain where they were originally irrespective of how far I drag the sketch, which was NOT the case with NX 7.0 where they all tended to move, so it would appear that there was some sort of problem which has been fixed in NX 7.5. BTW, I also tested this using the next version of NX (which is getting close to final freeze) and it works exactly the same way as does NX 7.5.

So I guess my advice is to upgrade to NX 7.5 as there are NO maintenance releases currently planned for NX 7.0.

So......
It seems that siemens released NX7 without any tests. It is total scrap(wave links, welding symbols, 3D centerlines, assembly constraints....).
We are part of big company, and we do not do upgrades then newest version is ready (NX2->NX4->NX7->NX10(?)). I think we are not the only users of nx7. Can it be true, that nobody experienced this before? The problems like that (wave links) cause very bad mistakes, that can by detected only in final assembly in the workshop. Siemens NX is expensive software, so for example, production manager do not believe, that these mistakes could be caused by so expensive software....
so its very sad.

NX 7.5 has been out for over a year now. When we released NX 7.0 we indicated that this was NOT going to be maintained any longer than absolutely necessary as the preferred release was going to be NX 7.5.

NO one should have installed NX 7.0 without also planning to update to NX 7.5 as soon as it was released!

We tried to make this abundantly clear at the time.

It's just interesting: do mating conditions help you to mate components to promoted part? or you did not tried yet?

I can't use both method.
After converted in assembly constraints, I can't use mating condition.
Anyway is a NX7 bug.

You can't mix Mating Conditions and Assembly Constraints in the same part file, and starting with NX 7.5 you can't create ANY new Mating Conditions in any part file. You will still be able to use assemblies with Mating Conditions and they will update as you would expect them to, but you will NOT be able to add new Mates or edit existing ones, except to the extent that they are controlled by expressions, such as editing the offset value of a Distance Mate or the size of an Angle Mate.

Yes, we know it. Because we are still on nx7, the only way to make our assemblies behave well is to use mating conditions.
