Pressure vessel internal and external corrosion - effective as one side corroded vessel ?

If you use UG-27 (inside radius based calculation), 'R' should be based on the inside corroded thickness, then add the outside corrosion allowance to your calculated 't'

    Appendix 2 Flange Thickness

"Facing thickness greater than 1/16" shall be in excess of the required minimum flange thickness". flange required thickness = 2.1875" raised face thickness = 0.25" total thickness = 2.4375"

Screw holes in flat head flange

If you calculate the opening as a diameter that includes the tapped holes you will be fine, then use UG-43(d) and (g) for the tapped hole depth (as others have said).

lenght of thickened shell for non-standard flange

VIII-1 Figure 2-4 (6a) has the neck as 1.5*g0 min.

    ASME VIII-1 Figure UCS-66.3 (b)and curve selection

I guess I should have said lowest alphabetically.

    ASME VIII-1 Figure UCS-66.3 (b)and curve selection

The lowest curve. If the shell is curve B and the nozzle is curve A, curve A is used. See the PTB-4 example problems, Example 3.4

    Non standard flange design

If there is metal to metal contact outside the bolt circle it would be an appendix Y flange. You might have to fudge the gasket location in most of the commercial software since it's located on the 'inside' of the flange hub

    Tangential Nozzle on Conical Transition

sorry about the delay, got crazy busy. If you are talking about the smaller nozzles on the cone (D1 & D2 I believe), then I would figure out the developed opening size and hope it is exempt from area replacement. If not, then you could create a nozzle with the ID of the developed opening. OR...

46-4 DESIGN BY ANALYSIS ASME BPVC.VIII.1

I would treat this similar to a pad flange, where the blue area is a reverse loose flange (or maybe a reverse integral in this case) per VIII-1 Appendix 2, then check the holes to UG-43(d) and (g). I would also do an area replacement check on the opening and limit the radius so it doesn't go...

Orifice Plate Bending - Mystery Calculation

I use R.W. Miller's method for sizing orifice plates. Required Thickness = SQRT((0.681-0.651*β)*ΔP/Y)*D D= diameter of pressurized area (pipe ID usually) ΔP = pressure drop from one side to the other side of the plate Y = plate yield stress at design temp. β = beta ratio (orifice plate...

    Interpolate Help

I found this on the web a long time ago, and it works great as a UDF. It's full of examples of how to use it. You probably want the 'Interp' function Function Interp(TableRange As Variant, RowVal As Double, ColOffset As Long) As Double Dim NoRows As Long, i As Long Dim ROffset As Long Dim XN...

PCC-2: Insert Plate With A Nozzle

Can someone confirm/correct me if I have the following wrong: I'm using PCC-2, 2022 Edition for reference. I have a circular insert plate that will have a NPS 10 nozzle in it, the vessel is designed to VIII-1. The insert plate is located on the shell (0.375" thick) and will not be close to any...

    Inside projection

Top of the page: Figure UW-16.1 Some Acceptable Types of Welded Nozzles and Other Connections to Shells, Heads, etc. I would also say that you don't need an internal fillet if you do a full pen. weld. Look at figure UW-16.1(c), you are allowed to have internal projection with no fillet weld...

    Software validation

I'm guessing what they want for the audit is something that validates the sheet. for example, if it was a VIII-1 audit, and you have a shell spreadsheet, do the shell sample from PTB-4.

    Nozzle reinforcement

UG-36(c)(3) Openings in vessels. AKA the size of the hole in the shell, not the ID of the connection. I reduce the opening all the time on NPT 2" OLets. if I limit the opening in the shell to 2.125", with 1/8" corrosion the opening gets exempt.
