12.5 % + or - WALL TOLERANCE ON CARBON STEEL PIPE

Thankyou for your response. I don’t want to come across as uneducated but in the case where API stated: The general wall Tolerance for welded pipe >.591 wall is +-1.5 (.060) What would the + or - tolerance equate to on .750 wall??? What is the formula. As far as I know it doesn’t carry the...

12.5 % + or - WALL TOLERANCE ON CARBON STEEL PIPE

Greetings everyone, The general consensus is that pipe carries a + or - 12.5% wall thickness tolerance and has been around for 50 years. I am currently dealing with SAWL 36 x .750 wall API 5L x52 pipe. I am being asked to prove that the + or - 12.5% wall thickness tolerance is in play for...

API 5L PSL 2 reporting of CVN results on MTR

I am in possession of some 2" xs API 5L X52 PSL 2 Hyundai the producing mill did not report the CVN results on the MTR. I am being told that 4" and below does not have to show results on the MTR. But I would need to prove this to our customer. Table 22 gives the requirements per size for...

Need proof API 5L Double Submerged Arc Weld (DSAW) Exceeds the welding standards of API 2B in PIPE

Thank you SJones, here is/was the outcome. Industry standard when it comes to API 5L carrying the 2B cert from the mill, simply states, "Roundness and Straightness accordance to API 2B" and NOT to "API 2B" whole specification. Once Customer realized and was told this fact they backed off...

Need proof API 5L Double Submerged Arc Weld (DSAW) Exceeds the welding standards of API 2B in PIPE

Hello Everyone, Have a huge project calling for us to use floor stock inventory. The project calls for API 5L X52 PSL2 EN10204 Cert 3.2 with API 2B The company is willing to allow us to use independent inspectors to meet the 3.2. The MTR's that do not state API 2B we are going to certify the...

ASTM A252 Gr 3 with 50 KSI min yield

Here is what I told the customer and they have agreed: In reference to their request for A252/A252M Grade 3 (Mod) 50 KSI Min YS. ASTM A252 does not carry such a designation. It only carries designations: A252 Grade 1, 2 or 3. The mills will sometimes designate “M” when one or two elements...

ASTM A252 Gr 3 with 50 KSI min yield

We are supplying pipe on a fast track job that requires material from stock. Customer has requested ASTM A252 Gr 3 with 50 KSI min yield or better. After placing the order they are requesting that all MTR's state "M" or modified due to the 50 KSI YS. No where in the spec is there any...

General Question about installing a trolley beam to an existing structure

So a general consensus is don't do it... This is my personal shop at home and rather than a gantry(portable crane) I thought about just installing a beam... Heaviest load probably a 500# car or boat motor... but was really interested in max load not a general load. Thanx everyone -=Fred=-...

General Question about installing a trolley beam to an existing structure

Have a metal building erected with 3 x 3 x 14ga a500 tubing don't know if it's grade A or B. The roof pitch is 3:12 Rather than installing a gantry crane I'm considering installing a beam off the trusses. The building is 36' x 20' and the trusses are spaced appox 5 feet apart in the 20'...

ASME B31.3 need to know allowable stress factor for API 5l X52 *** urgent response please ***

I would have not substituted without prior approval had the pipe company we sold the pipe to specified "B" on their order. Silly Basic Math question but I don't know the answer

First off I apologize, I stated 45th ed. read wall tolerance + - 0,7 (0.028)t When in fact 45th ed. did NOT have a t for HFW pipe. So given the response above... that being absolute ... .236 to .591 wall would carry a tolerance of + or - .028 ie; .236 would calculate to + or - 11.8%...

Silly Basic Math question but I don't know the answer

API 45th edition calls out a wall tolerance on page 145 table J.4 it simply states wall tolerance + - 0,7 (0.028)t should I do a calculation here based upon my given wall to come up with a wall tolerance? If so what is the calculation? OR Is it my wall + or - .028 BTW my wall...
