    bolt preload simulation......please help

Find your max load and do a static analysis with the preloaded bolts. After that see the deformation with a big magnification factor (around 100) and you'll see if they separate and by how much and if it is everywhere or not.

    Please review and provide feedback

#14 If you want go-nogo gages to check position, you need the MMC I would add this one that I often see, especially on old timer drawings. Do not write drill, tap, ream or any process unless as per Y14.5 2009 basic rules 1.4e: The drawing should define a part without speci- fying...

Reference dimension, Assembly drawing and Y14.5 2009

I put dimensions in the assembly for "others". Marketing needs overall dimension for selling purpose. Client needs interface dimension (bolt pattern and thread size) and envelope of product. Production need overall dimension for packaging purpose. Welding need plates thicknesses to have an...

Reference dimension, Assembly drawing and Y14.5 2009

In an assembly drawing, Do you put dimension as REF () or not in an assembly? In 1.3.24 is clear as what is a reference dimension and it applies to assemblies. In 1.4o gives an opportunity to leave it without ref but in an assembly this is not a feature but a stack on features. Most of the...

When choosing the fit, choose "Fit with tolerances" and you'll see the numbers with the dimension.

    2" -0.003/-0.007 allowed in asme y14.5?

I had a badly fabricated pin where on the drawing it was indicated 2" -.003/-0.007 and they machined it at 2" exactly (+/-0.0005). I've been in the code asme y14.5 1994 but it is not clear. Code just claim we can put fit tolerance (where we have -/-) for metric fit. Other examples are just with...

    Laptop for solidworks

I often read that vista x65 is better than xp64. I have vista 64 on a Loaded Dell M4400. It is working really good. Don't wate your time with Geforce you'll be more trouble free on a Quattro, it is designed for that. Robin

    Best availble notebook??

Dell are great and the most used for Solidworks. I have a M70 (for sell) and now I have a M4400 (fully loaded). Look for the precision series in laptops. M4400 is hard to beat if you're looking for 15" screen and led display.

    Rigidity study possible?

Even if I use a remote mass. I have to be able to know the force and the distance traveled at this point. Problem is not to find the force (can be a mass or a force) but to find the displacement of this remote force/mass in order to find a rigidity ratio (stifness)

    Rigidity study possible?

Hi, I want to make a rigidity study. I mean putting a load with rigid remote load (load is outside the part) and find back the displacement of this load. I'd like to compare 2 parts (rigidity vs weight). My other alternative is to make another part threated as solid and bonded to my grasping...

Dell M4400, FX 1700M Crash on vista x64

I almost get everytime ghosting of the last item menu I clicked. It will stay on the graphic until another item takes its place of the "ghost item on the screen". The only way I found to get rid of it is to change resolution and cancel it to go back to the old resolution. Do you have problem...

Dell M4400, FX 1700M Crash on vista x64

We can adjust the font of text on the welding symbol but I didn't find how to change the size of the symbol itself (it is too big). Anyone know how to do it?

Primary unit is fraction, how to control when override to decimal?

cotpher, Yes, the whole drawing is in fraction but some holes and positionning are critical and I nedd to put x.xxx value but the default (when overridden) is set to x.xx and I am wondering how to change it to x.xxx. MOreover that when you override it you can adjust the number of digits to...

Primary unit is fraction, how to control when override to decimal?

The funny part is that when your override it, you can adjust, for every dimension, the number of digits and one choice is x.xx(documents). Where is ti pointing?

Primary unit is fraction, how to control when override to decimal?

In a drawing, I've setted my primary dimension as fraction. For some dimensions I overrided them to decimal but I don't know from there how to control the number of digits as default. In unit you have the option to set the fraction denominator or the decimal numbers, not both. I went to...
