Hi "Some Curious Guy"
Thanks for your reply.
In my case there is only WN flange + blind flange so wrapping of the blind is not a concern and the final machining after WO deposit will clear the problems of deformation.
But I agree that for a tubesheet it's a concern and that to "get a feel of...
Dear Engineers,
In continuation to the thread794-422928 I would like your advice regarding the profile of flange face to be considered before WO (Weld Overlay) deposit.
In this configuration the WO deposit shall be 8.5mm after machining
-if we start with a standard flange the original groove...
Hi dears Specialists
I have in mind a requirement from ASME VIII div 1 about 100% RT for stainless steel plates above 38mm.
I have been able to found the UCS-57 § for CS and the limit of 32mm but impossible to find the § dealing with the limit for stainless steel in the UHA...
Do I start to...
TGS4 thanks for your reply.
Yes and no, if we consider a small piece of shell the two forces are working in the same plane and should be combined by the square root of the sum of the square for example ?
Hi engineers,
A quick one, t=PR/SE-0.6P to calculate thk under internal pressure (circumferential stress).
Why ASME doesn't combine this circumferential stress with the longitudinal stress generated by the end load which is around 1/2 the circumferential stress ?
Hy DSB123 and thanks for your answer.
I'm 100% in line with all points of you mail.
For clarity i'm working on PV only subject to external pressure, thus with a lot of stiffeners. Large nozzles are frequently crossing one or two stiffeners and sometimes they're just fitting between two...
Hy Engineers,
My today's concern is regarding ASME VIII - UG-37 "area in excess thickness" vs UG-29 "combined ring cross section".
Let's consider a vessel working under external pressure.
Stiffeners are installed and partial length of the shell is considered (and combined) with the stiffener...
Hy Buddies,
I'm designing an STHE and calculation oblige me to add a tube support plate in the inlet nozzle area of the shell because of outermost tubes buckling as per UHX 14.5.9.
That being said the thermal's Guy ask for an opening in the center of this support plate to improve fluid...
Hy everybody,
I found on the threads that grade B7M was to be used in place of grade B7 in case of sour service, they have same chemistery and allowable stress. [thumbsup]
For grades B8 and B8M chemistery is different but allowable stress are same, what about the use in sour service ?
Thanks...
Hy everybody,
My concern is about the minimum radius for bend part of U tubes.
STHE is in destination of a nuclear plant project, grade of tubes is 316L and according to the speakers the minimum radius fluctuates between 1.5 to 2 times the external dia of tube.
Does anyone know if a precise...
Fawkes,
I've found the sentence, thanks.
In my opinion it's not really sufficient to come to the conclusion that PED allows to reduce the test pressure to the maxi allowable pressure of the equipment in test conditions.
Have you experience of that ?
Hey everybody,
[ponder]Considering a pressure vessel designed with EN13445 and PED, wit ref to § 10.2.3.3.1 of EN13445 that for says test pressure:
max 1.25 Ps fa/ft or 1.43 Ps under condition that test pressure was limited such a way not to increase design stress.
I understand that if test...
TGS4,
After some test is seems that correct formulas is:
LR1 = mini { ? (Reff t) ; W }
I will send query to the secretary of the Codes and Standards committee anyway and I will update the thread.
Hey,
Did someone already used the § 4.5 of ASME VIII Div2 ed 2007, calculations for openning reinforcement.
Formulas (4.5.4) of § 4.5.5.1 a) 2) for calculation of LR1 is wrong: LR1 = min [ sqrt(Reff t) + w ] shall we correct as
LR1 = sqrt(Reff t) + w
or
LR1 = min [ sqrt(Reff t); w ]
Thanks...
Hello Everybody,
The NACE require 22HRC maxi to prevent HIC effects on C.S. and the use is to select "soft" material like SA516GR65 to reach this value.
Is it realistic to select SA516GR70 if target for welding hardness is 14HRC after PWHT ?
