You haven't seen anything yet. Just wait till people realize one of the rail cars on the Crimea Bridge was a tar kettle.
It is extremely variable based on numerous factors. However, politics aside - if that is even possible in this case, the Nord Stream 1 had a declared mechanical design life...
These photos are making the rounds today showing the 'explosive device' that was ----previously found during a 2015 pipeline survey---- and later identified as a 'mine clearing' ROV that may or may not have been 'lost' by an unidentified group during training exercises:
!!!To be clear - these...
The surveillance camera angle from the rail trestle seems to indicated that - whether or not it was an initiator - the first truck (and passenger vehicle) were both in the blast zone.

Not to derail this topic anymore than it already has been (no pun intended), I certainly would not want to travel over it myself.
Having said that...
Unofficial consensus right now is 'something' exploded on top of the NW bound lanes (Russia->Crimea) of the east span causing mid-span failure...
With all due respect TugboatEng, I feel like you may not have read through all the reports or articles and I believe you may be misunderstanding the sequence of events.
Based on the information that has been released to the public thus far, I've put together some cliff notes regarding the...
I believe the short answer is 'no'. This being the military however it appears the answer is 'sorta'.
Also I would suggest reading the a fore mentioned article starting at the heading labeled "Cracked PVC Pipe Illustrates Contracting Failure". It appears to have quite a bit of detail on this...
Would this not be the "fire suppression line" that was contaminated on May 6th during the initial fuel transfer mishap and then later damaged on Nov. 20th resulting in the contaminated contents being released and flushed into the drainage system/out into public?
I only skimmed through the...
This is allegedly leaked video of the actual leak as it was happening:

It is a bit alarming to me that nearly every picture containing steel exhibits welded joints that have pulled or cracked right at the root/HAZ.
If that rusty line on the inside edge of the loose twin socket bracket was where another piece of steel was butted prior to galvanizing, it does not...
Very good point if that final position is indeed from a snap back.
I do not see that indicated anywhere in the report. Just that the wind speed around the time of the incident was 18mph with 33mph gusts. The report also states that prior to this the structure: "...had not had high wind loads...
Obviously it shouldn't matter, but keep in mind this particular report was specifically initiated to hold harmless the Neill Grading and Construction Company. I believe there is at least one if not two other groups doing an investigation as well for the other parties involved.
Regarding the...
According to page 8, the contract/design called for 35PSF while Western Wood Products only designed for a '32.16' PSF load. I'm not sure it specifics anywhere what the practical cable strength is/was, that I can see anyway. Edit: I kind of doubt a beefier cable would have saved this design...
Update on the situation...
One of the engineering firms brought on to investigate the collapse (by the legal defense team representing the contractor that assembled the structure) has released a preliminary report of their investigation into the failure.
Greensboro News & Record has published...
This gentleman has some excellent photos that he took while visually documenting various stages of the arches construction.
They are some of the clearest images of the design choices in question that I have come across, including the (possibly infamous) 'pin' joint.
I do not want to directly...
It is hard for me to tell with the grainy security camera footage (seems to be a staple here at eng-tips...), but it sure looks to me like the tip started to fail first and then overloaded the lower fixed "hinge" points causing them to fail and twist as it rolled over.
I cannot imagine it would...
If you look at Western Wood Structures portfolio ( https://www.westernwoodstructures.com ) as well as some of their YouTube videos, they use this type of pin connection quite a bit, through this arch uses the 'lightest' example of it that I have seen. I suspect it is used in dealing with the...
Does anybody know the timestamp in the re-occurring tiktok screenshot that appears to show a round object on the ground just below and to the right of the "C" on the vehicle gate? (aka the 'table'/'fan/'hvac unit'/'truck'/'portal to another dimension'. I have not been able to produce a similar...
