When I exported to iges I had the same result as when I exported to dxf.
I am creating the dxf directly from the V4.
I will try the hpgl option as rickyt suggested.

I have imported an iges file, put all unwanted geometry in NO SHOW and now I am trying to erase them to reduce the file size but I think I am missing a step.

Is your surface model an imported one? (came from a step/iges file)
If yes, you need to go
Edit Defifinition->Edit->Feature Properties->and check the Join surfaces box
So that the surface model is made of 1 quilt.

The files are locked in the commonspace, so you either go in the commonspace and unlock(change status) them from there or if you have the files in your workspace, select the files choose change status click on the commonspace tab and unlock them from there.

We don`t design the Class A surfaces ourselves but we receive them from our customers but we build what`s behind the A surfaces which also involves a lot of surface/curves work and I agree with Texaspete said.

Since I am much more familiar with ProE when I say "sketch text" I mean, choose a font and create the text immediately in sketcher without any problems of exporting/importing.
