Unable to thicken surface models containing blends

As you spotted, if your part thickness is 3mm then your minimum rads need to be at least 3mm otherwise it won't offset. I get this lots with automotive bumpers where the Styled surface rads are less that the material thickness. In this case there's no option but to model the A and B surfaces...

Loading large catproducts in V5 R14???

We have the same problem and generally find the following works well. 1. Put the kettle on 2. Make yourself a cuppa 3. Put your feet up and wait. It doesn't get the job done any quicker but big products will always take time to load even with cache mode turned on.

    Stickers?

Here's one thing you can try if you get the image in JPEG or similar format. Use GSD and in a sketch, draw a shape that's a bit bigger than the size of the sticker. Come out of the sketch and apply a fill to the sketch to produce a flat surface. Apply a material to the surface, something plain...

V5 Move part bodies using compass, in x y z direction

After you have dropped the compass onto the body, right click on the compass and select 'Use Local Axis System' this will orientate the compass relative to the model axis system so that the compass U, V and W will correspond to the model X, Y and Z axis

V5R14 FILTER OUT BODY FROM VIEW

Right click on the body that you want to see and select 'Define in Work Object' then in Tools toolbar select the 'Only Current Body' icon (looks like 3 small horizontal rectangles) - it will turn orange and change to one small rectangle with a line under it. You will now only see the selected...

    creataing a multi-section surface

Create two extrudes - one from each curve and then use blend. You can then tangency match the blend to each extrude and also adjust the tension at each end to tune the shape. It'll probably turn out pretty nasty but then it's expecting a bit to get a decent result from very basic geometry -...

    Creating a symmetrical solid.

I've got a complicated aluminium casting that's used in a left hand drive automotive application. It's modelled in V5 solids, fully parametric so I can make changes as required. Now I need to create the equivalent casting for the right hand drive version, which will basically be a symmetry of...

Is it possible to turn off CGR creation and use of in V5.

Go to Tools, Options, Infrastructure, Product Structure and select the cache management tab and de-select Work with the cache system. Be aware that if you work with very big products this will slow your machine down - regardless of how fast you think it is.

    thicken surface?

If you've already got a solid, they maybe you could use shell. This would allow you to apply an inside and outside thickness to each surface of the solid.

DO I NEED DMU KINEMATICS TO VIEW A SIMULATION?

I'd use method 2 as described by jackk (not got a DMU licence). In assembly design, fix the column and then apply a concentricity constraint between the column and the shroud. Then if you use the Manipulation icon - select the Drag around any axis button (bottom right) and check the 'with...

How to invert curve dirrection ? V5

    Trouble getting curves to coincide

I'm assuming that it's a planar fill that you're doing - otherwise you probably wouldn't be using a sketch. Best to start off trying to close the end points in the sketch. If you've got two curves that you want to meet at their end points, first fix one of the curves by right clicking on it and...

    Model Manipulation - Link Viewers

If you have two CATIA Parts open and have the windows tiled, is there any way of linking the model manipulation between the two windows, similar to link viewers in the Replace command, so when you move one Part the other one moves at the same time.

    Boundaries vs.Extract

Personally I use Boundary for curves, Extract to get faces or surfaces and occasionally to get individual curve elements out of sketches and I don't generall have problems when I come to replace element. Not sure what anyone else uses but this does the job for me.

    Simulation to MPEG

Use Tools - Image - Video. This will capture whatever is happening on screen as an .avi file.

    Zoom in on the points!?

Use the 'Fit All In' button - yellow box with 4 black arrows. If this doesn't work make sure you don't have any rogue points i.e. points that are a long distance away from the main group of points.

Who can I join/unite lines in CATIA

Once you've created the join you should use the smooth command and select tangent continuity - this will create a single curve with no internal knots.

    creating a symmetry

You could open a New Product, insert the Part into the Product and then use the Create CATPart from Product command which is in the Tools drop down menu in Assembly Design. This also give the option to merge all Bodies into one single body.

    Hole in Thick Surface

Have a look at the part I sent you via your website - was created on Rev15 but should be OK to open on Rev13

    Hole in Thick Surface

Ok, the pictures make it a little easier to understand. Using Catia5 as a guide, you need to expand the Pocket Definition command box by clicking the More button. This will allow you to access the parameters for the second limit of the pocket. Then you can do one of the following, either select...
