    thoughts on top down design

Thanks to all for your input. Sounds as though larger assemblies would prove problematic as I suspected. Drawoh seems to have hit the nail on the head in that the creation of subs helps, as it does with bottom up construction. Great concept if the necessary power could be applied. Thanks again...

    thoughts on top down design

Hi all, Anybody heavy into top down design techniques? I understand the differences between it and bottom up but havent tried it on large assemblies(>1000 parts). Anyone have thoughts regarding performance?

    hotkey macro

It does work as listed. I was trying to add F11 as well. It does not seem to want to toggle the full screen view

    display state in parts

There are no display states in SW2009 for parts. This is an addition in 2010. My VAR was confused. What a surprise. Thanks all.

    hotkey macro

Thanks handleman the macro works but the first three times I hit the shortcut hides each one at a time, the fourth time on the shortcut brings them all back. I'm no API wizard but doesnt the code instruct all off at the same time?

    display state in parts

Hi all, I'm told my part files should have a display state window below the config listing. Is this turned on somewhere?

    hotkey macro

Hi all, F9 hides feature manager, F10 hides toolbars, Crtl-F1 hides design library. Can a macro do all three, and undo with one key? Not having luck creating. Thanks SW2009 sp3.0

    TIMING GRID

I want to create a grid, on which I can add cam motions for reference. The viewable grid needs to have the snap feature, to make it easier to insert the motions. The finished timing diagram will be inserted into the manufacturing drawing for the cam. I dont need a part, just a template grid...

    TIMING GRID

Hi All, I would like to create a timing chart using a display grid with the ability to snap to the intersections. It will be used as a timing display for cam paths. The sketch grid in SW would be ideal as it is customizable, but I need to convert it to a template keeping the snap feature. Adding...

    SHOW WITH DEPENDANTS

Hi All, I will typically bring into assemblies commercial items that need alterations for our purposes, in their as bought state. I then "hide in all configurations" through the component properties. Some colleages, when viewing sections of large assemblies use hide to get at internal parts...

    flexible assembly

I found the surface I was using is not parallel to the offset plane I use to coincident mate. The two are out of parallel by some very small fraction of a degree. I went thru all relavent parts to try to find the source to no avail. There are a couple imported parts which may contribute, but all...

    flexible assembly

Also, If I suppress the top, front and side mates holding the sub in plce at the tl, it works. It appears the conflict is between these mates but why now

    flexible assembly

CBL I have the sub set to flexible, mated to a top, front side to keep it in place in the tl. I can move parts of the sub that need to move by dragging. I cannot define a fixed height by mating to an offset tl plane. Curiously enough I have been doing it that way for months in this assembly.

    flexible assembly

Hi All, I have a sub assembly which is made flexible within the top level. I have been offsetting one of the primary planes in the top level and using it as a mating plane to define the tooling height of the sub assembly. It has been working for a while now, but lately I get mate errors at the...

    All gray appearance

Only on one assembly. Dont believe it could be driver. Large assembly is set at >400 parts i believe and not on for this assy. Resolving does change back to desired colors, until drawing is opened. Assy and drawing revert to all gray. sent to VAR form review

    All gray appearance

Hi all, I have an assembly in which all details are colored thru the appearance tab at the component level. The assembly built shows these colors. I recently created a drawing and everything turns gray in both the drawing and assembly. I can get color back at the assembly level but not the...

    positioning asemblies

Good morning All, We have a number of assemblies such as cylinders, press units, pick and place units, etc. which are mated to allow movement to the their respective extreme positions generally using coincident mates. Configurations provide the options for these positions and work well. In...
