    Corrosion of AISI 304 (1.4301, 304SS)

Yes, in a cleanroom but not sure if gloves are worn. The only place they will be touched by bare hands is in our manufacturing shop floor during the machine build phase. Post install they should not be seeing too many greasy hands.

    Corrosion of AISI 304 (1.4301, 304SS)

Can anyone confirm if 304 is subject to corrosion due to handling by people. Note that the 304 parts are on a machine that will be in a cleanroom environment. We have chosen 316 but I believe 304 will be sufficient as the parts will not be in contact with any harsh chemicals. They might just...

What Type of Hole Provides Better Retention of a Part - Counterbored or Countersunk

https://www.xometry.com/resources/machining/countersink-vs-counterbore-holes/ There are several advantages to using a counterbore hole, including more holding strength. A counterbore usually has more holding strength compared to a countersink hole because the force applied by the socket cap...

What Type of Hole Provides Better Retention of a Part - Counterbored or Countersunk

In my head a counterbored hole provides more rigidity as the screwhead has a flat surface to screw up against. Would I be right in my thinking or is it 6 of one and 1/2 a dozen of the other?

    3D CAD Viewers

There might be between a hundred & several hundred in each station. One cannot really put a number on this as it varies from machine to machine. Techs are given top level assemblies as well as station models. I would think it is fairly obvious why we used a CAD viewer, if there are any queries...

    3D CAD Viewers

So just to clarify, I work with a machine building company. We design and build bespoke machinery so almost everything is custom, rarely do we do anything that is the same. So after design, we order all the tooling (very little made in-house). Machine is designed in stations (aka...

    3D CAD Viewers

Thanks Dik. I was using SW Composer 2021 and I agree it's very good but in this case I need something a little less complex for assembly techs. @JohnRBaker - the main purpose is to view 3D assembly files in order to be able to assemble a machine. The problem with eDrawings is it is extrmeley...

    3D CAD Viewers

Yes SW Composer is useful but I'm looking for a like for like viewer in comparison with eDrawings. Looking at Glovius and SolidView.

    3D CAD Viewers

Thanks dik. It looks like Briscad is for structural engineering. I'm looking for a viewer for SolidWorks files.

    3D CAD Viewers

Can anyone recommend an alternative to eDrawings? Currently we use this on the shop floor to view machine stations/sub-assemblies during the build phase and it is killing the team of assembly technicians as it is so slow. Has anyone used Glovius?

General Tolerances Unless Otherwise Stated (Linear/angular)

Thanks for all the feedback. It is a metric drawing template. Arguments for each of the responses particularly as to why you would have a difference between 5.9 and 6.1 but as handleman pointed out, you should probably add an explicit tolerance anyway. We're really just trying to find the...

    What's this part number

We eventually found out what this was, it was a modified standard part from SMC. https://www.smcpneumatics.com/TM-10.html SMC Mfr. Part No.: TM-10

General Tolerances Unless Otherwise Stated (Linear/angular)

Looking for a standard which will help me define what we should be putting down on our SolidWorks drawing template when it comes to general Linear and angular tolerances. Currently as follows in mm: X: +/-0.25 .X +/-0.1 .XX +/-0.05 .XXX +/-0.010 Which standard should I be looking...

    What's this part number

Long shot but does anyone know the part number/manufacturer for the cable mounts/clips indicated?

Meter Out Flow Controller Setup on Vertically Mounted Cylinders

It is an 5/3 DCV with exhaust center, SMC SY5300-5U1 When de-energised they exhaust through the centre position.

Meter Out Flow Controller Setup on Vertically Mounted Cylinders

My hands on knowledge of pneumatics is limited so I would like to validate my understanding of a meter out circuit. A project I am working on has vertically mounted cylinders which lift product nests upwards. Nests weigh approximately 35kg and 4 cylinders lift the nest upwards. The stroke of...

    3D Hubs

What kind of tolerances can the produce to? +/- 0.01mm?

User Requirement Specification/Functional Requirement Specification for a Bowl Feeder

Would anyone have a generic URS/FRS for a bowl feeder? We are purchasing one and would like to be able validate it. We gave the manufacturer a spec sheet with requirements originally (parts per minute, decibel ratings, feed rates etc) but moving forward we know we need to flesh this out more. Am...

Controlled Stop of a Machine - Air not Dumped

Apologies, I never saw your reply til now. It doesn't appear to violate LOTO. However, we don't have an expert in-house who can verify that the pneumatic circuits are up to scratch from a safety perspective.

    3D Hubs

Has anyone used 3D Hubs to manufacture CNC parts. They look quite cost competitive based on a quote we received from them.
