Backfill/soil requirements on drawings

How much specification wise do you folks show on the drawings? Do you have a min requirement for back filling behind walls, around footings, under slabs, etc?

Min compaction requirements? Moisture content? lift heights?

Or is it better to leave that to the geotech report i.e. "All soil back filling requirements per recommendations of geotechnical engineer."

What is no report is done?

12” min of 3/4” clean stone free of fines. If clay is under slab on grade specify removal to frost depth if unheated area. Drainage provided to remove water from foundation are.

I try to minimize depending on a geotechnical report as many times these reports offer suggestions, alternatives, etc. without specifying anything highly detailed. I have taken recommendations out of the geotech reports and integrated some of their language into my specifications or general notes.

Geotechnical reports often use "may" or "recommend you consider" or similar "soft" language like that which is ill suited for contractual language needed in plans and specs like "contractor shall."
