If computer links are a problem in the industry, why are there no backup navigation computers if one fails?

Sounds like reverse failed... Static discharge issue with inadequate grounding and/or shielding?

I am assuming there was not a backup computer in the ship's navigation system here.

"Reverse failed" followed by "allision with the port infrastructure and a collection of moored vessels" depressingly often turns out to be one of two things - either a failure of a mechanical linkage on a CPP actuator, or a confusion about which control station on the bridge was active.

Maybe this case will be something higher tech. Maybe.

Finally found the spot. They were nowhere near their final destination, so probably not a tug problem, since they had nearly a mile before they were supposed to turn to starboard.
