This is well worth the time spent to review this presentation in full.

It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts. (Sherlock Holmes - A Scandal in Bohemia.)

Canada's pipeline should run east towards Hudon Bay, skip the Rockies. The pipeline itself (by contributing to AGW and melting the polar ice cap) will help to keep the Northwest Passage to Asia open year round. That's "sustainable", but using the word in a more general sense.

Well the Chinese used to sail their junks across the North pole in the sixteenth century. So why not.

As for rising CO2 levels this has been established as the oceans given up the CO2 as they do on an 800 year cycle.

"The best way for a climate scientist to become wealthy is to deny global warming. There are lots of "foundations" that give out generous awards and grants to scientists who will deny."

Let's see. James Hansen of NASA GISS, who says that a sea level rise of 300mm/year by the end of this century is plausible, has won:

- The $250,000 Heinz prize

- The $550,000 Blue Planet prize

- The $100,000 Sophie prize

I am unaware of anything like that on the skeptic/denier side.

Where is that damn button to give people stars? Virtual star for cswilson.

"There were articles by a few free thinkers speculating that an ice age could be coming. The scientific consensus, even in the 1970's was that the earth was warming."

This CIA report from 1974 makes for very interesting reading. The CIA was very concerned by many "extreme weather" events and resulting crop failures, with possible national security implications. So they convened a panel of the top climate scientists to try to determine if this was just "weather" or if a climatic shift to the colder state of the 1600 - 1850 period (which it calls the "neo-boreal period; more often called "little ice age") was going on.

The report states, "By the second day, a consensus was reached on the following fundamental issues:

- A global climatic change is taking place

- We will not soon return to the climate patterns of the recent past"

The full report can be found here:

I particularly note the sense throughout the report that warm conditions are good (and necessary to maintain the population); it's cold that is worrisome.

"So wake up and prepare for Bangladesh to go under."

In the warming that has occurred since the mid-1970s, Bangladesh has gained 1000 square kilometers of area.

The types of sea level changes we are seeing are basically irrelevant. The big rivers carry sediment down from the Himalayas and when they hit sea level -- whatever it is -- they dump it. This is how river deltas form.

The river deltas that are washing away, like the Nile and the Mississippi, are doing so because dams and dikes are preventing the deposition of sediment. Sea level change is a most a very minor contributor.

Port in Alberta. That would be the Port of Fort McMurray. It has a railroad, lots of pipelines, and at one time was a shipping center for stern-wheelers going north. It has river connections to the Arctic ocean.
Coincidence. I've just been informed that I will be going south to Fort McMurray tomorrow for parts.

"South to Fort McMurray"???? In Winter? When was the last time you saw the sun? I wouldn't trade jobs with you for anything.

It has its perks. Work 14 days and 7 days at home. Free transportation in 737s. Nice warm rooms and fairly good food.
Good pay.
Nowhere in Alberta sees much sun this time of year.
On the other hand a lot of people here are on a personal agenda and are counting the days until their personal goal is realized and they will leave.

It was a nippy -27C when I left this morning. When I reached Fort Mac' about two hours later it was a balmy -21C. I saw the sun low in the sky at about 9:30.
If you're in Fort Mac', try Mrs. Bee's Restaurant. Good food, good service, good prices and the daily special is often a traditional New Foundland dish.

I promised 10 references supporting global warming from the 1970's for each one offered to support cooling. I have serious doubts about the authenticity of the offered "CIA" report. But, I will still offer up the required references. This report is a comprehensive analysis of the literature of that time. There are many dozens of references included.

The PDF link in the attachment will fulfill my offer.
