Hi all,

Can someone please elaborate on Y14.5-2018 Figure 8-6 "Possible Results of Specifying Straightness per Unit Length RFS, With No Specified Total"?

The previous figure 8-5 shows straightness per unit length at RFS (I believe this figure is also in Y14.5-2009). Where a composite straightness is used to establish an outer boundary (0.4) with a refinement of 0.1/25.

I believe figure 8-6 is intending to show what happens if you don't set a total straightness i.e. if you just used 0.1/25 but I'm not quite understanding the image as the central zone keeps increasing (0.1, 0.4, 0.9, 1.6).

Thanks in advance!

It means that with just the per-unit length requirement and without the total limitation, the shaft can bend to no end.
