Meanwhile in the real world

As I have demonstrated elsewhere, zero net emissions requires an enormous amount of capital spending and some massive increase in either storage or nuclear or preferably both.

I think we'll have to get used to making some real changes and costly ones... the future could get real ugly.

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Do you feel any better?

dik, you're an optimist! the future "could" get real ugly ?

the future will get ugly for us 99%ers whether it's climate change, fuel taxes, other climate taxes, etc .. the 1% will be nicely insulated for all the negatives. The one biggie that may get them is social unrest (if we revert to a hollywood post apocalyptic "Mad Max" world).

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

"...could get 'real' ugly.", is what I said

ok, but "could" is what puts you in the optimist camp ...

could simply means that it could go from ugly to very ugly... I have great grandkids growing up into this mess...

It all contributes... in the rural areas, where loss of insect populations is a bigger problem, light pollution is not likely as big an issue.

There isn't money to be made off the simple things such as banning the use of daylight colored bulbs outdoors. There isn't money to be made so let's brush it aside. You know, it's only part of the problem.

Where am I going, and what am I doing in this handbasket?

Pesticides.

and GMO crops.

Stopping climate change won't fix either and the insect populations will still decline.

As of 2021 it seems there isn't enough information to make conclusions about the insect decline.

Although a flurry of reports has drawn attention to declines in insect abundance, biomass, species richness, and range sizes (e.g., refs. 12–18; for reviews see refs. 19 and 20), whether the rates of declines for insects are on par with or exceed those for other groups remains unknown. There are still too little data to know how the steep insect declines reported for western Europe and California’s Central Valley—areas of high human density and activity—compare to population trends in sparsely populated regions and wildlands.

For a long time I have considered the so-called Green Revolution possibly the biggest risk we all face. From every aspect it is unsustainable.

Let's wait for the science to come in then.
Hold on, it is in!

More importantly, where are you going?

Remember what they say: it's not about the destination, it's about the journey.
