Just for my own information, do you know any good forums where MBD/ MBE issues are discussed and debated.
I am trying to learn more about this subject and talking with subject matter experts in this area would be a good idea (at least in my point of view).

Please let me know what information you can have (I know PTC, Solidworks and other CAD packages have their own MBD sections, but I am looking for more general information than CAD specifics)

Sort of like learning about spoken languages without wanting to look at particular ones? Aside from STEP, which was created for that purpose, everything is implementation dependent, and even STEP has been damaged.

What sort of debate are you looking for? BREP vs CSG vs subdivision triangles? Parametric VS boundary/history free? Ordered parametric VS variational?

I think the OP is asking about part definition practices sans drawings.
ASME Y14.41 Digital Product Definition Data Practices: Engineering Product Definition and Related Documentation Practices is a good place to start.

The last I looked most of the figures in that were taken from PTC software. The NIST STEP effort was the predecessor. Then some at ASME decided to glom on the non-orthographic depictions for Feature Control Frames and Datum Symbols. Since Y14.41 compliance didn't guarantee perfect round-trips between software packages I ignored it as being no better than the proprietary solutions CAD/CAE vendors already half-baked.

Call me when the interface is exactly defined so I could sit in front of a CMM, Creo (Pro/Engineer), Catia, Solidworks and not know the difference between them and call up a model and review it.

Thank you all for the answers.
My intention is to find forums where specifics are discussed: roadblocks (common objections against) proper implementation, (new) ideas how to sell it to people and higher management, do's and don't(s), or discussions in general about MBD/ MBE

I knew about Y14.41 and its "sister" (read copy from ASME) ISO standard (ISO16792), but I will like to go beyond the standard itself, in the same way we are going here on this forum about issues (questions, debates) with (mostly) ASME Y14.5. Again, I am looking for forums of such discussions.

Thanks
Andras

Andera,

If you want to specify parts to be fabricated, this is the forum.

You need to tell your vendors what you want fabricated, and what you will accept at incoming inspection. Does MBD/MBE solve your communication problem, or does it exacerbate it?

Do a search on MBD. We have discussed this.
