Need Wood truss engineer for Nevada 23

Hello. I’m looking for engineered flat roof wood truss design for a single family home in Nevada.

I know truss manufacturers can provide this, but I don’t want them to design. I would like to get the design drawings independently and then send out to manufacture.

With proper design, both web bracing can work. The second approach results in larger but fewer TPIC plates, and does not accommodate uplift very well. The first approach is more common to the industry, and I suspect is likely less costly to fabricate, else the second approach would be common. The first approach is better for 'added' loading and the lighter member loads may make it less prone to failure.

The comment about the depth to span is good... I'd expect a deeper section, even for steel construction.

Residential truss design is so driven towards lowest price. One commercial project we were involved in the GC selected the lowest price from a number of suppliers. They had two lifts of T braces and other bracing to install on site that was not part of their package. Along with that they had some "Site Frame" regions that were not included. They have looked at quotes much closer ever since then.

Truss #2 design was hand made be RonTheRedneck, who has proven to show distinct qualities of legit engineering practices. Let us not be cruel to those who perform good work with honorable hands.

My questions were cruel?
I designed a lot of trusses, albiet a long time ago. What was said here went against my take aways from that. We preferred deeper trusses for deflection control. I had questions. Still didn't get very satisfying answers, but now I'd just rater just let it go. Just not worth ruffling any more feathers.

Don't get into petroleum project development.
Even Angles have to carry 3 or 4 extra sets of wings.

@bridgesmith - you gotta admit, RonTheRedneck does fully demonstrate some good ol’ american ingenuity. I believe that people, such as him, have led the way for future generations to be inspired to design REAL WORLD solutions that meet standards and quality that consumers demand.

Just to add something - coming from petroleum/powergeneration background - i cant imagine ever using a truss requering web bracing - didnt know such a thing existed until now

What can you do when 1.5" is always the weak axis dimension, except brace. Not much to work with.

1503-44 - You didn't ask how much deflection the truss had. You asked if I checked deflections. That's what put me off.

Deflection checks are built into the software in order to make it as idiot-proof as possible. The program has minimum limits. We can raise them, but can't lower them. I have enough experience to know when deflection is going to be a problem. (Subject for another thread)

Someone emntioned truss manufacturers being "cheap". (Not the exact words)

Surely you guys know why. Several of you have mentioned that you work on thin margins. We do too.

I've tried to sell jobs based on service and quality. I'll bet many of you have too. And I've been told to my face that service and quality are great - As long as we're the low bidder. I'd also bet many of you have heard similar things from your customers.
