Anyone got one?

How can kids and pets get injured with it?

Or is it just lacking safety screens from moving bits?

Kids are pretty observant; no doubt any 3 or 4 yr old can figure out the PIN code after watching Dad or Mom doing it a few times.

Yup, I wouldn't put anything past kids having become a licensed and bonded locksmith at age 12. OTOH, I wouldn't put it past parents to defeat safety mechanisms meant to keep their kids safe. The magnetic safety "switch" (button, key, whatever you want to call it) rarely gets used IME. In 1503's youtube link, the interesting/ironic bit is that video was caught of that accident. Baby/kiddie safety monitoring video perhaps?...while the kiddos play on the treadmill.

I can picture that in a movie..
hmm no need to picture it, it is just to watch.

Not sure if it is possible to make a treadmill that takes foreseeable misuse into account.
Maybe it is better to just let Darwin do the job.

The camera is working, but the adults have long since passed out.

A guard fitting tightly around the end is the perfect thing for catching hair and clothing in. Ripping part of a scalp off will likely require a trip to the ER.

There have been many cases of belt abrasions requiring burn treatments and skin graphs.

When does something have to be family safe? Pretty much everything in a commercial gym I wouldn't be leaving my kid to play with.

Treadmills are dangerous. They can't be family safe when the family can turn it on.

Peloton is stopping sales and recalling treadmills. Full $4,300 refund for those who want it. Also offering to move the unit from one room to another. And will be implementing software that automatically locks the treadmill after use and requires a PIN entry for reactivation.

Statement of Peloton’s CEO John Foley:
The decision to recall both products was the right thing to do for Peloton’s Members and their families. I want to be clear, Peloton made a mistake in our initial response to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s request that we recall the Tread+. We should have engaged more productively with them from the outset. For that, I apologize. Today’s announcement reflects our recognition that, by working closely with the CPSC, we can increase safety awareness for our Members. We believe strongly in the future of at-home connected fitness and are committed to work with the CPSC to set new industry safety standards for treadmills. We have a desire and a responsibility to be an industry leader in product safety.”

Well it blocks off one of the holes in the swiss cheese...

Still doesn't stop animals, small children creeping up on the slightly over weight, a bit unfit, sweating adult trying to keep up with the nice toned fit people you always see on the peleton adverts....

With todays society, that result was expected, same result as every other example of crucifying someone or something in social circles.

An average of 20,000 people a year were going to the ER in the US because of treadmills long before Peleton came along and there will continue to be 20,000 people a year on average still going to the ER in the US after this recall.

Well I guess you need to start somewhere.
If crucifying somethings in social circles/media is the only way of geting bad or deadly products of the market, then may it be so.
I can think of many other ways of doing it, but hade they been used it wouldn't have been on the market in the first place.

Sounds like another useless safeguard to be ignored. Going back to the video linked, do we really think the toddlers started the treadmill going on their own?

I must start by asking what your definition of toddler are?
And it is a language question.
My comprehension of the word is a kid who can walk but not talk properly, max up to 3 years old.

But to answer your question I do not think a kid older then 4 years would have a problem starting that thing, not even with a pin code.
They catch on so fast and they are quite good at this trail and error thing, sooner or later they will get it.

I was looking after CHs grand daughter one time when he was making dinner, he was babysitting she was around 3 years old.
In one of the kids bedrooms they hade all moved out there was this bed lamp with no bulb in it and the plug was still in the wall socket.
So I pulled it out.
Of course she saw it, so it became the most funny thing to do, trying to put the plug back in again.
She still lives, maybe she will become a electrician when she grows up, as here grandfather.

even clever enough to put a stool on the treadmill to reach the keypad....[lol]

UK sold ones are being recalled due to displays/consoles falling off.

Politicians like to panic, they need activity. It is their substitute for achievement.

Pretty much, my son was a ninja for pissing his mother off getting things she had put up out the way.

The simple fact you tell them not to go near something makes it the latest must have item/occupation. I used reverse phycology on mine and if there was something I didn't want him near I would force him onto it for half a day which was guaranteed he wouldn't go near it again. Still works now that he is 6. And pin codes and facial recognition is a breeze, he gets into his mums phone while she is sleeping with the facial stuff and pins he seems to learn the new ones a couple of days after changing.

"Toddlers" are normally somewhere between 1 and maybe 2 1/2 where they can walk but a bit unsteady on their feet. At 3 most can walk and run very well.

Also the past tense of have is had, not hade.

But your English is far far better than my Swedish or indeed any other language so please take this as a gentle helping hand.

:) It's okey I will try to remember ;-)
It's actually the right/same word, but it's Swedish ;-)
Sometimes it is the spelling program, I can always blame it. ;-)
If the word is correctly spelled but it's the wrong word it will not catch it.
Some time I catch it myself, but sometimes I do not.
