I have a client requesting that I do the engineering for a truss modification. I figure I can easily model the truss in a 3-D software and get the correct member sizes, but I am curious if there is any information about wood truss gusset plates and their capacities.

I figure I can just get the shear, moment, and other loads from the 3-D model and just make sure I use gusset plates that can handle the loads, but I can't find any info on gusset plates.

Will your client have hydraulic presses to assemble these trusses or will he be using nail-on plates?

Simpson Strong-Tie have truss plates for this purpose. Some plates are not intended for structural applications. Design values depend on configuration which are proprietary.

jwhitmer, I'm unsure what a common manufacture is for gusset plates in your area, has plywood gussets been explored as an alternative?

Alternatively, Mitek has number gussets available here and some helpful evaluation reports from the NRC can be found here for their products As I am in Canada, perhaps you can check the american website and find the similar results.

We also have a Truss Plate Institute of Canada which has several resources, There may be an equivalent for USA which may have some valuable resources for your application.
Hope this helps. Thanks,
