Nuclear power plants are not designed to operate in war zones. What can be done to proactively shore up the safety systems of these plants in Ukraine?

Assuming Russia permitted the international community to bring equipment on-site uncontested, is there anything that could be used in a pinch to augment emergency power systems etc? When I got out of the nuclear industry in 2016, there were a lot of projects in the works for this type of “beyond design basis” scenario in response to Fukushima.

Hopefully IAEA is already being proactive about this and working in a contingency plan, but I’m interested in hearing thoughts from our community here.

I saw 200 tons of diesel per day in another AP article. There are 20 DG’s on site

https://t.me/operativnoZSU/46872[/URL]]⚠️⚠️⚠️ Tonight at 00:59 due to another shelling by the Russian troops, the last communication line with the 750kV power system of the Dniprovska Nuclear Power Plant was damaged and unlocked.
As a result, Zaporizhzhia NPP was completely de-energized.
Diesel generators turned on automatically.
The available supplies of diesel fuel for their work in this mode will be enough for 10 days.

It is necessary to repair and restore the operation of the communication lines of the ZNPP with the power system.

Plans to include power units in conditions of shelling and damage to all lines are unrealistic.

not paying attention here nor news.
has it been discussed that a "shut down" nuclear plant needs power to remove ambiant heat for fuel decay? (or KaBoom)
I thought it interesting that in a fosseil fuel power station when "clearances" were hung to put the plant in shut down. the only need for outside power was work tools and lighting. even some jobs contractor had to bring there on.
BUT a Nuclear power plant is NOT "tagged out" work has to be carefully planned around keeping the core cooled (even once the head is off and fuel bundles are being moved) only once the bundles are placed in storage (where natural convection cooling is suffcient) can a nuclear plant do without power.

If this has been mentioned prior, excuse me . . .

From everything we are constantly told they are all just "clean" and non polluting energy, so not a thing to be concerned about, right?
