Does impact toughness depend on diameter?

thanks, this is what I thought beforehand and was confirmed by the mill. They missed a charpy requirement and now we need to retest various heats. Thanks for the response.

Does impact toughness depend on diameter?

If there were multiple diameters of bar made from the same heat at a mill, would the mill perform a Charpy test on each individual diameter bar or would they just test one representative sample from the entire heat/lot? Meaning would they machine the same size charpy sample from two different...

    bar bending max radii

Is there a formula to figure out how much stresses would come into play when bending a solid 5/8" non ferrous bar, specifically n04400? I want to know if it would crack?

HCl and HF, in the same piping system

In a piping system that will have 36% HCl ran through it and then purged with air and then 6% HF run through at ambient temperature, would you expect any issues using C276? Or possibly another alloy? I am thinking C276 just because its resistance to HCl but not so sure with the HF, I know it is...

    Nitric, sulfuric and Hydrochloric mix?

Does Aqua regia include Sulfuric Acid though?

    Nitric, sulfuric and Hydrochloric mix?

If a there were an acid mixture containing( Nitric, Sulfuric and Hydrochloric) what would the corrosion behavior of the mix be? Oxidizing? Reducing? I don't have any concentrations yet. The obvious thing would be that the acid with the biggest presence would take precedence over the others, is...

    Pickling stains..

Yea that's the problem the material is already in transit. I have heard that a dilute muriatic acid solution would wipe the material clean from grime and oils. I agree that this is poor workmanship if incomplete pickling has occurred.

Cleaning Alloy C22 with dilute Muriatic Acid?

It sounded a little sketchy. I actually think the markings on these tubes may be a result of incomplete pickling. I am waiting on a response from Haynes to see about their process.

Cleaning Alloy C22 with dilute Muriatic Acid?

I have some tubes, with some tarnish and handling stains on it, I have heard from a colleague that you can use a dilute muriatic acid solution to wipe away the grime. Has anyone ever heard or tried this?

    Pickling stains..

I have some Alloy C22 that has some blackish stains around the length of a tube. The pipe looks smudged and foggy and the dark stains are not in any particular pattern down the length of the pipe. If they are pickling stains, this would not affect the corrosion resistance of the pipe, correct...

ASME code case 1192 regarding k500

I know K500 is made to QQN286 Rev E,F or G, and ASTM SB 865. But someone is asking about ASME Code Case 1192 in regards to K500. I do not know what is meant by this, any thoughts? Does it reference the chemistry or mechanical properties, like B865?

    Dichloroacetic Acid (2.5-10%) in Toulene

All I have on this media is an MSDS, no temperature. Does anyone know of somewhere I could find some data on how this media attacks. I haven't been able to come across this, but I know it is very nasty and caustic. I have found some information on Toulene, but not toluene contaminated with DCA...

    "laminated" hastelloy??

ha, yea it makes sense. I believe it was a south American customer and someone probably just stuck the message in a online translator and out came "laminated". Thanks the insight folks!

    "laminated" hastelloy??

I think he meant solution annealed for solubilized...who calls it this? But I still do not know what they meant by Laminated round bar.

    "laminated" hastelloy??

Has anyone ever hear of Laminated C276 bar? I have someone asking for this and I have never seen this. He is also asking for hard/stripped solubilized. Are these surface treatments or something, or is this guy just confused?

    Hydrofluorosilicic Acid/Fluorosilic acid and HF(aqueous)

Yea that's what I found out that HF is derived from, but I actually found some data in Corrosion Data Survey from NACE that showed as 400 having good resistance and c276 having a little less good, but like you said all the other factors need to be known. I did not find that much information on...

    Hydrofluorosilicic Acid/Fluorosilic acid and HF(aqueous)

Does anyone have any experience with HFS(FSA)? I am trying to figure whether or not, corrosion data will be close to that of aqeous HF against Ni-Cr-Mo alloys like C276. I know Monel 400, is highly resistant to HF, and I have found some data to show that C276 and monel are good, but also...

How would I figure the load/weight capacity of a homemade cart used to move around heavy alloy bars?

thanks for the tip.....I was actually looking do some preliminary calculations prior to hiring someone to actually rate it. Is this small of a job something a struc. would take on?

How would I figure the load/weight capacity of a homemade cart used to move around heavy alloy bars?

We have some utility carts that our warehouse uses to move around heavy alloy bars and pipes. These carts were homemade many years ago and now need to be rated by capacity. Any idea of where I would start in figuring this out? I can get the material properties no prob, but I don't know where to...
