    Connection Problem

What are the anchors? Hilti, HCA, Simpson? Hilti limits the bolt size to 3/8" for a this type of embedment, so two bolts would be trickey. Hilti Profis works well for this.

    Foundation for modular field office

This will depend on the rules in effect where the office is located. People still put trailers on blocks at grade if they can get away with it. We see these set on screw piles most of the time. Few want to pay the cost for a frost wall, so most end up skirted with wood framing or a plastic...

    frame release concept steel structure

The column releases would be the primary problem. Otherwise it seems similar to a common old school pin truss model. In reality, your top chord rarely has this many pins. It is also common to have some small gaps at the web intesections to keep the fabrication simple.

Bolts and T-Stubs and Prying, Oh My!

The only reason to look at FEA would be to prove to those who will incorrectly suggest this is a fit up problem before they agree to fix the problem. It would also be interesting to see the effect on the webs if you have a lot of stretched connections along the length of the chords. Beyond...

Bolts and T-Stubs and Prying, Oh My!

True. None of this is complicated to model in Tekla, and from that you can direct link to IDEAStatic with the Checkbot easily. Modeling this in Tekla is easy. One creates a few custom components, and you are off to the races. Since it is not your problem to fix, it seems the problem stops...

Bolts and T-Stubs and Prying, Oh My!

This seems like a good application for Idea Statica to determine the stiffness of these joints. The plates seem thinner than even what I see in a PEB joint. I doubt anyone would have thought this was your design. You do not give the vibe you miss much.

Very steep roof (24/12) - vaulted

The moment frames seem reasonable. I would look at a 2x12 wall so I could use deeper sections and space out the frames. That will bring a WF12 into the realm of possibilities. If I were dropping this much $$, I would ask to delete the tie as well.

    SAP2000 Quick Plots

Yes, I need to speed up my process to create the calc book in an electronic format. Our projects are all over the map, so templates have never worked well, but to be honest that might be a user issue more than a software problem. The idea of extracting the data and re-creating the plots has...

    SAP2000 Quick Plots

Thanks guys. The model name is a start. The force diagrams must be stored somehow using the M33, V22, etc. names. If I could extract those along with the load combination I would be off to the races. I did ask tech support, but the person that responded seemed only marginally interested. It...

    SAP2000 Quick Plots

I am tired of the time to enter the plot names for each .pdf file. Using PDFCreator I can dump a plot to a specified folder in seconds, but they are not named. So long as you print them in the order you want, you can bind them into a package easily when you are done. I see there is an option...

Can I please know the name of this software that designs trusses?

MiTek and Simpson Strong Tie are two that have the software. You need the correct license to produce those calc sheets.

    Artificial Intelligence in Structural Engineering

There are lots of everyday things I use ChatGPT for. You need a paid account. They are better. It takes practice to get it to produce useful results. Some examples: Data manipulation. You can feed it large amounts of data, and it can sort thru the columns and find what you need. In one...

Is a concrete double tee just two single tee's combined?

Sounds like an odd shape if it is not one of the standards.

    Precast/Tilt-Up lifting anchors - Combined Shear/Tension

We have put in a ton of lifters, and my crew has never balked at some rebar. This is one of the most important parts of precast and in many cases this can govern your design. Depending on the plant setup you can handle the parts after casting, loading, and site erection. At each stage you...

    Precast/Tilt-Up lifting anchors - Combined Shear/Tension

For dowels I have plotted the Vf/Vr, and Tf/Tr values like you see below. PCI and CPCI contain this clause. I am not sure why you are not specifying a produce like Dayton Superior where they are tested. Some on the market nowadays seem to be copying others, but they should have data to...

    Jupyter Lab Notebook Calculation Sheet

Thanks. The script is working now. The last time I tried it did not seem to work, but maybe I had cache issue.

    Jupyter Lab Notebook Calculation Sheet

I see a few are reading this, so I will add a bit more of the process I am working thru. My goal is to create a simple script to calculate member reactions. Most EORs in my area only include the factored reactions, and I waste a lot of time figuring out the dead/live/snow load values for...

    Jupyter Lab Notebook Calculation Sheet

How do you get in touch with Connor? I would like to get on the wait list for his training. I need to improve some of my basic skills so some aspects go faster.

    Jupyter Lab Notebook Calculation Sheet

Sure. The reason I posted was to see if anyone else wanted some ideas. I did not find a ton of great examples when I started, so I thought others might be interested. I will share a number of things for the benefit of others, so do not be annoyed if I drone on a bit. I started looking into...

    Jupyter Lab Notebook Calculation Sheet

I have been working on a project to create more of my calculation sheets using Jupyter Lab or Notebooks. I did not like the look of the output, so I went searching for options to improve the quality of the calculation sheets. This turned out to be a bit of a headache given how little I...
