Ah there are a few hidden little utilities like that buried here and there! It is included with the install, so I think that it should be OK to pass along if needed?
Thanks,

You can have a single sheetmetal part that you can flatten in a weldment if you like. I would probably suggest making a top down assembly though instead for most cases.

There is a utility located here:
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\SolidWorks\Toolbox\data utilities
It is called:
sldsetdocprop.exe
Try running that on the file!

Without seeing the image I would suggest possibly looking into the Path mate that was introduced in SW2008. It allows you to mate a point to a path that can be identified through a sketch pretty easily. So maybe a point on one component...following a specified sketch on the other?
Daniel...
RealView does make a difference. I now add the button for "edit realview appearance" to my standard tool bar. It will allow you to make color changes while RealView is enabled more easily. (Tools/Customize/Commands/ then View category)

To expand on this...I think that some good points have been made, but the best feature of a 3D Sketch for 2006 has not been mentioned. You can make any series of planes that you want to reference for orientation before you start your 3D Sketch (or you can make the planes while in the sketch...
Rob, I do not know that I totally agree with the statement that desktop search and SW Explorer are not related in some way. Both do take advantage of the indexing service of MS. I have customized my search paths in SW (which carry foreword into the Indexing Service paths as well as into SW...
The Logitech 610 is what I use as well. The software for it is great as well, allowing button assignment per application. So with SW I can disable the left and right scroll options, but still use them in other applications. I assign other buttons for escape and control only in SW as well. I...
Keep an eye out for Mark Biasotti's PhotoWorks II presentation when it becomes available. It was probably the most informative presentation I have attended over the past 4 years at SWW in terms of leaning new things. I was amazed at all the tricks he mentioned.
For example, are you using HDR...
On the subject of harddrive, jacbal, you are right, the 7200 rpm makes a huge difference.
p.s. Dell has deals on these every once in a while. I saw them (60GB 7200rpm) selling new on Dell.com for about $130 the other day. Would make a good upgrade for your machine.
I would advise only a M60. SW likes new video cards and drivers....an M60 and the FX1000 card should be current for quite some time. Highly recommended. I did buy mine new off of Ebay for a good price
good point. if i want to use a point for this i make a point in a 2d or 2d sketch and use it as you describe using the parallel to a plane at a point option.
Maybe is is just me but i love the new trim functionality and feel it is way stronger than SW04. I use the power trim optin and just drag through whatever i want to trim..works in all situations except when extending. I like that it will alway stay in that mode and you do not have to pick...
Maybe the issue is becasue the double middle mouse button has mapped functionality in the SW environment?? Double MMB on an edge and the model will spin about that edge (works on faces and points as well.)
Just a thought?
Daniel
If it is coming is as one sketch then you have to edit that sketch to modify your geometry. "Fix" is a relation in SW to keep model geometry in place without the use of dimensions. You will want to delete the fixed relations and then you will be able to re orient the geometry and drive the...
Reading more..I see people talking about Assy's, but not from Scott. I appologize if that is what you were asking for Scott because this would not help you out in that case.
