    Unknown Drawing Symbol

I have vague recollections of seeing this on UK drawings back in the 1960's I also think that it was in place of * and there would be an associated note elsewhere on the drawing sheet

    Recommendations: SolidWorks Manuals

Thanks all I have tried the tutorials but they don't always cover the specific areas I seem to come up against. I'll take on board the Google:SW...suggestion but might get the SW2013 bible as a spare moment browse Thanks again for your suggestions Geoff

    Surface free energy

Can anyone give me the Surface Free Energy value for Borosilicate glass 3.3 or point me in the right direction of a data source? Thanks in advance Geoff

    Jaw crusher assemble

When I worked in the quarrying industry (many years ago) the crusher flywheels were keyed to the eccentric shaft. There was only be one position in which they fitted in order to line up the keyways. Ask your colleague if the keys have been fitted. If so, then the flywheel is in the correct place...

    Metric Specialty Threads

Fine pitch for M4 is 0.5mm. Taps/dies should be readily available (but perhaps not if you are in the USA)

    supplying water uphill

Excuse my earlier jocular post BUT more seriously, if the pond is not at the bottom of the hill then how is it getting its water in the first place: 1. A stream can't be filling it unless the stream was flowing down the hill. Therefore dam the stream at the point higher up where you want the...

    supplying water uphill

Ask a woman to carry it up in buckets: she's not manpower and my wife would certainly object if she was classed as animal power!

    316L DP1

Stumpii is on the right track, I have since discovered that it does mean (in this instance) Dull Polish 1 side, i.e. nothing to do with the grade of steel per se. Thanks for the input.

    Mechanical designers books and others....

Aside from the usual reference books (calculations, specifications etc) the book that is usually on my desk is 'The Complete (so far) Book of Experience with Vivid Illustrations' by Myself. Very useful indeed! Don't be afraid to look, ask questions and learn.

    316L DP1

We have a component where we have specified 316L as the material for a pressing, the supplier has counter-specified the material as 316L DP1 in his quotation. Can anyone tell me what DP1 means?

    Hydrophobic data for plastics

I posted this originally in the materials engineering forum but then realised that this one is more appropriate, so apologies for double posting: Can anyone supply me with (or point me in the right direction for) comparative data regarding the hydrophobic/hydrophyllic characteristics of the...

    Drafting History

Youngstructural Here are a couple of views from the 1905 Steam Crane drawing. As you can see after over a hundred years its a bit faded, dirty and generally suffered. However some of the brown tint is from my scanner. I have scanned it at fairly low resolution which doesn't do it justice but...

Youngstructural OK, I'll scan a couple of views from the drawing - probably this weekend as I won't have time before.

Pressed Yes those are the pencils my colleagure had. I can't open your attachment either which is a pity because I would like to compare things with a drawing I was given by a business contact some years ago. This drawing (of a rail mounted steam crane assembly) is ink on white paper with a rag...

    Drafting History

In the late 1960's when we were using clutch pencils with 2mm leads that needed sharpening (into chisel points) a colleague visited Canada and came back with what was probably a fore-runner of the small diameter leaded clutch pencils; this particular clutch pencil used long, flat replacable...
