API 579 - Brittle Fracture Assessment

Is there any software dealing only with brittle fracture assessment Level-1 and Level-2 according to API 579? I have seen Signal FFS but that deals with a number of defects and very expensive. Birken

Fitness for Service - Brittle Fracture (Level 1 Assessment)

Thank you. A mainstream FFS software created a doubt in my mind as it explicitly stated that Level-1 assessment is not applicable on materials other than P-No.1 G-No.1 & P-No.1 G-No.2. Clear enough now, as Table 3.2 for Curves also mentions materials other than P-No.1 G-No.1 & P-No.1 G-No.2.

Fitness for Service - Brittle Fracture (Level 1 Assessment)

Is level 1 assessment as per API 579 for brittle fracture applicable to P1 Group 1 & 2 materials only? Just need this clarification to move forward. Thank you. Birken

    Pipe Risers Height

In this case, piping isometrics mentioning elevation for first flanges of risers are matching the field installation.

    Pipe Risers Height

These lines under discussion contain process drain. Where this reference of 12" can be found in order to implement this recommendation?

    Pipe Risers Height

So there is no issue in having flanges so close to the ground? Water accumulation, soil interface causing corrosion?

    Pipe Risers Height

Hi All, At our gas plant, I have seen some pipes connected to the underground drain with flange connections just inches aboveground (3-5"). Is this a good practice for installing pipe risers?

    Welding A335-P11 to A106-B with E8018-B2 Electrode

You can use either E8018-B2 or E7018 just like you are using P11 & carbon steel to carry the service. This weld joint will be as strong as the carbon steel is, so better use filler matching to carbon steel instead P11. This is what we had been doing since years. We have qualified procedure of...

Pipe thk claculation for SS347 Pipe at 649 deg C

PipingClassic, You may like to use PetroPipe software to get you calculation verified. It does the calculations for required thickness according to different piping codes including ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.4 & B31.8. It's a freeware. Birken

    WPQ

VanChe, I would advise you to use WeldPulse software which would help you in getting and knowing about the approval ranges for both SMAW & GTAW processes considering procedure or performance qualifications. You can know more about the software at http://www.weldpulse.com Not a hefty amount of...

    Welder Qualification of Branch Weld

Welder qualification has to be done for branch welds also. You need to study Article III of ASME IX for your specific case. Deposited weld metal thickness is an essential variable for welder qualification. Birken

PQRs Applicability for a new welding job

We need to weld a branch connection of 10 mm thick branch pipe to a header of 30 mm. P.No. is 1. Impact test required and PWHT mandatory. Two PQRs are available with following thickness ranges: 1. 8.5 - 17 mm (without PWHT) impact tested 2. 16 - 48 mm (with PWHT) impact tested Can I use these...

    Pipe Diameter Range Qualified

    1. Yes 2. Test coupon can be of any product form (doesn't have any impact on qualification - product form, not an essential variable), position is important as in which position you need to qualify. You just need to continue reading Article III of ASME IX and you will start understanding the...

low ferrite in weld of Duplex steel

smart143, The exact ferrite number of the filler with WRC 1992 diagram comes out to be 34.09 FN. Reduction in FN is unavoidable during any heat treatment. To attend this matter and meet the specifications, an appropriate filler may be considered. You need to predict FN for the weld joint...

low ferrite in weld of Duplex steel

Ferrite measurement would have been taken prior to heat treatment. The limits apply to as-welded deposit. Using constitution diagrams to predict ferrite number for as-welded deposit is the way to go. This would give some idea of ferrite number before applying heat treatment. Birken

Does LTCS Weld Joint with above 20mm thickness need PWHT?

Following B31.3 any P No.1 material having thickness greater than 20 mm requires heat treatment irrespective of which filler is used to weld. Like if you weld plain carbon steel with stainless steel with groove joint thickness greater than 20 mm, you have to perform PWHT (for the CS side) in...

Steps to Welders Qualification and Procedure Qualification process

The software is WeldPulse and you can download a free trial from their website http://www.weldpulse.com That would work for few days and then you need to purchase the license for continuous use. Birken

Steps to Welders Qualification and Procedure Qualification process

You can start from the following document enabling you to learn about developing a preliminary welding procedure. http://www.scribd.com/doc/159757497/How-to-Write-a-Preliminary-Welding-Procedure-Specification-pWPS Similar documents can be found for welder qualification. Birken

Can WPSs and PQRs be applied retrospectively

Though I haven't come across such a situation but in my opinion, there shouldn't be any harm in going with any of the options. You just need to be sure that the welds made with the welding procedures pass additional tests also and update the record. Birken
