RE graphical scales.
We use them on our site plans and other similar civil type drawings, but even they aren't immune to skewing during reproduction - especially over a fax transmission.
RE: Pump Handbook by Karassick, Messina, et al.; 4th ed.
I had an earlier version of this book several years back. I was looking to buy the latest version. The McGraw-Hill website states that "SI units used throughout the book". Does anyone know if that statement means that Imperial units...
Thank you. Now I guess it is all a matter of interpretation. Technically it does not open directly into the food prep area. I *know* that will be the owner's argument.
Assuming no officials enforce a change, have you got any advice with how to proceed?
IRstuff, not sure what you're saying. I assume you're trying to be funny.
Kiwi,
You said, "The airspace from a bathroom cannot be connected to an area used for food preparation." Can you point me to a section in a building code (FL code is modeled on the IBC) where this is stated? How do...
I'm doing the HVAC for a bowling alley. I went out with the mechanical contractor one day last week and discovered that the bathrooms are being built without a ceiling. The owner decided he would just build up 8' walls around the bathrooms, but not enclose them. My initial response was, "You...
Suerte,
If you're going ahead with the MS degree, you might think about sticking with your current job (assuming you can) long enough to sit for the PE. Applying for a SE job will go alot easier if you already have a PE and you can show you're halfway through with a MSCE.
Same problem here. We went to a 3-hour minimum billing. That helped, but didn't cure the problem entirely.
MiketheEngineer, how do you get $1,000 for a house design with no drawings? What do you mean by that?
This may not be what you're looking for, but . . .
Assuming these are to be ASME certified pressure vessels, you'll be going to an awful lot of expense/hassle for just 12-20 vessels per year. On the surface, it looks like a real money loser.
A couple of things:
IRstuff: You get better humidity control from longer running cycles. This is why it is bad to oversize units - when a unit is oversized, it will cool the space in too short a period of time to remove the moisture.
MSB: That's why we run the numbers. With good insulation...
In case anyone wondered, the state agreed with me (and all of you) that churches are not exempt from ventilation requirements. Further they confirmed my belief that local jurisdictions can make building laws/rules more restrictive than the code, but they can not (legally) enact looser...
I'll throw in my two cents. In the state of Florida, the line is nearly impossible to define. I contacted the state board and got back an email response from a lawyer. It was written very lawyer-y - lots of wiggle room. These were the first two sentences of his response: "I have no...
Thanks guys. I used the ASHRAE 62.1 option and classified the spaces correspondingly. But, yes, if I were to stick to the IMC's table, I would probably use "Theatres - Auditorium" for the sancuary.
Throughout the building, there are a few operable windows, but not nearly enough to do away...
I completed the HVAC design for a church in my area a while back. Currently there is a disagreement over the neccessity for outdoor (ventilation) air. I'm in FL and the current Florida code is based upon the 2003 IMC.
Section 403.3 of the 2004 Florida Mechanical Code states, “Ventilation...
Why not?
Look, for the vast majority of all engineering work (including most of the stuff I do), I fully expect I'll have to sign and seal my work - I base my price accordingly. There is a market, however, where PE approval is not required - typically in the residential sector. As an example...
